India seeks measures to tackle trade distortions.
India has called for action to address trade distortions caused by non-market economies, non-tariff barriers and restoration of a strong dispute settlement mechanism at the World Trade Organization (WTO), commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday. The minister, however, insisted that one should not jump to the conclusion that an existential crisis has been created at the multilateral trade body.

FSSAI issues guidelines for acceptance of rPET as Food Contact Material.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has issued guidelines for acceptance of recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) as Food Contact Material (FCM-rPET). According to FSSAI, these guidelines pertain only to the recycling process/operation of transforming post-consumer PET used for food applications into recycled PET as Food Contact Material (FCM-rPET) resins suitable for making Food Contact Materials and cover the acceptance criteria for using (FCM-rPET) resin in Food Contact Materials, apply only to recycling technology approved by FSSAI and do not apply to production of resins for non-food grade consumer applications.

‘Centre aims to enhance farmers income by increasing production’.
The Central government is committed to enhance farmers’ income by increasing production across crops in agriculture and allied sectors, Raghavendra Bhatta, Deputy Director General (Animal Science) of ICAR has said. The ongoing ‘lab to land’ initiative under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan would significantly enhance productivity in the coming seasons. A substantial rise in output is expected across crops, animal husbandry and fisheries, he said.

India exported goods worth $275 million to remote Honduras in Central America during the April 2024-March 2025 period as against $201 million to nearby Cambodia. The population of Honduras is just 10 million as against Cambodia's 17 million.

Piyush Goyal meets Italian business leaders in Milan, to co-chair meeting with Italy’s Deputy PM.
India and Italy will assess the progress and identify new avenues for collaboration in high-impact areas such as the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), the government said Wednesday. Industry 4.0, agritech, digitalization, energy transition and sustainable mobility, are the other areas where the two sides will focus. The issues will be discussed during commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal’s two-day visit to Italy on June 4-5.

India-US trade deal in not-too-distant future: US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick has said one should expect a trade deal between India and the US in the 'not-too-distant future' as the two countries have found a place that works for them. 'So the idea is when they put the right person and India put the right person on the other side of the table, and we've managed, I think, to be in a very, very good place,' Lutnick said in his keynote address at the eighth edition of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) Leadership Summit here Monday.
