The production and exports for guavas from India are constantly growing, according to Sourabh Jaiswal, Business Development Manager for Indian produce exporter KK Star: 'Our guava production has continued its steady growth. This means that overall, guava cultivation has increased, and this year's output is higher than in previous years as a result. The weather is playing a mixed role this season. In southern states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, there was heavy rainfall from March to April, which helped maintain good soil moisture for guava crops. On the other hand, some central regions such as Madhya Pradesh faced a shortage of rain, which put stress on the plants and could affect the final yields. Weather unpredictability remains a challenge for growers.'

India and the EU will beat the expectations of their leaders and are trying to conclude the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) talks ahead of the year-end deadline, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said Thursday. In February this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Union Chief Ursula von der Leyen announced that the India-EU FTA will be reached by the end of 2025.

India and the EU have reached consensus on almost half of the topics to be covered by a trade deal they hope to seal this year and have agreed that the pact will not cover some 'sensitive' farming products such as dairy, according to people with knowledge of the talks. The people said negotiators had agreed eight out of roughly 20 deal 'chapters', each covering topics such as rules of origin or intellectual property rights, after the EU in February stepped up efforts to bolster economic ties with the world’s fifth-largest economy.

India has called for action to curb non-tariff barriers, address trade distortions caused by non-market economies, and restore a strong dispute settlement mechanism at the WTO, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday. The minister also pitched for strengthening the current consensus-based approach at the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the special and differential treatment given to less developed countries and developing countries, and bringing back focus on issues that have already been finalised and mandated at previous ministerial meetings.

India should offer concessions on agricultural products from US such as edible oils and nuts where domestic supply gaps exist, and explore duty concessions to boost high-performing exports — including shrimp, fish, spices, rice, tea, coffee, and rubber — in the US market during the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) negotiations, a Niti Aayog working paper has argued.

Highlighting that India’s $580-650 billion agriculture sector is the world’s fastest-growing —at 5 per cent annually in the past six years—a report by McKinsey said it can reach to $ 1.4 trillion by 2035. 'India’s agriculture sector is host to multiple structural advantages vis-à-vis other agriculture economies that, if leveraged to their full potential, could accelerate growth of the sector to $ 1.4 trillion by 2035 and $ 3.1 trillion by 2047,' it said in a report titled 'value creation in Indian agriculture'.

The Centre is preparing to roll out e-NAM 2.0, and States may have to make some changes in their Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Acts. This will be a preparatory step by the Centre to ensure that more inter-State transactions happen over the e-NAM platform. Through hand holding of States, traders are being persuaded to buy though e-NAM. However, it needs many structural reforms required by both the Centre and States to show desired results, experts said.

The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (Amul) on Wednesday announced the launch of Amul milk in Madrid and Barcelona cities of Spain. The Gujarat-based cooperative body said it will subsequently expand to other parts of European Union including Portugal, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.

Trade negotiations between the United States and India are making progress and a deal could be finalised soon, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said on Monday, as both sides push to conclude talks ahead of a July deadline. 'You should expect a deal between United States and India (in the ) not-too-distant future because I think we have found a place that really works for both countries,' Lutnick said at the annual summit of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum in Washington.
