India’s wheat procurement plummets 40% due to delayed start in Madhya Pradesh.
With relaxations in quality of the grain to be purchased from Punjab approved on Friday, the Centre’s wheat procurement is expected to get further momentum even as over all purchase so far was nearly 40 per cent lower. After similar relaxations approved earlier for Haryana, the purchase has already moved up in the state.

Centre fully vigilant in farmers’ interests: Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan reviews Kharif preparedness.
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan today conducted a high-level review of the current status of the agriculture sector and preparations for the upcoming Kharif season, directing the Agriculture Secretary and concerned senior officials to ensure all necessary arrangements are made well in advance to safeguard farmers’ interests. The meeting extensively discussed weather forecasts, water availability, crop conditions, arrangements for seeds and other agricultural inputs, states’ preparations, and action plans to cope with potential adverse weather conditions. During the review meeting, Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh emphasised that farmers’ welfare is of utmost priority for us, and the government is fully prepared to address the potential El Niño impact.

Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan approves procurement of 20 lakh MT potatoes in Uttar Pradesh, relief for farmers from distressed prices.
In a landmark decision offering substantial relief to farmers and prioritising their economic well-being, the Government of India has formally approved the procurement of potatoes in the state of Uttar Pradesh, alongside chana procurement operations in Andhra Pradesh, and an important extension of the tur (pigeon pea) procurement timeframe in Karnataka. These strategic approvals, personally greenlit by Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan are designed to guarantee that farmers receive fair and remunerative prices for their hard-earned produce. They effectively shield producers from the hardships of distress sales in volatile markets and contribute to overall stability and predictability in the agricultural marketplace, fostering a more secure environment for cultivation and trade.

The India–Austria Business Forum was held at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi, on the occasion of the visit of Federal Chancellor of Austria, H.E. Dr. Christian Stocker. Federal Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism of Austria, H.E. Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, also participated in the forum. The Indian side was led by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal. The forum brought together senior government representatives, policymakers and industry leaders to explore opportunities for enhancing trade, investment and strategic collaboration.

Government Expands Coverage of RELIEF Scheme Amid West Asia Geopolitical Developments.
In view of the evolving geopolitical situation in West Asia and its continuing impact on maritime logistics across the Gulf and adjoining regions, the Government has expanded the list of eligible destinations under RELIEF – Resilience & Logistics Intervention for Export Facilitation, a time-bound intervention under the Export Promotion Mission (EPM). RELIEF was launched on 19 March 2026 as a targeted intervention to support Indian exporters affected by extraordinary freight escalation, heightened insurance premia and war-related export risks arising from disruptions in the Gulf and wider West Asia maritime corridor. The intervention provides calibrated support across the export cycle, including for shipments already undertaken during the disruption period as well as prospective exports.

India and Norway hold 3rd Session of Dialogue on Trade and Investment; underscore TEPA’s role in strengthening bilateral economic ties.
The 3rd Session of the India–Norway Dialogue on Trade and Investment (DTI) was held in New Delhi on 16 April 2026. The session was co-chaired by Shri Mohit Yadav, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, and Ms Nina Christine Rør, Director General, Department of Trade Policy, Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, Government of Norway. This was the first session of the DTI held after the entry into force of the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) on 1 October 2025, and both sides underlined the importance of TEPA in advancing economic cooperation between India and Norway.

India is home to about 1,000 varieties of mangoes, although only a few are commercially cultivated. The country produces around 24 million metric tonnes or more of mangoes annually, accounting for nearly half of the world's total mango production. Despite this, only a very small portion of Indian mangoes makes its way to international markets. Less than 1% of the mangoes grown in India are exported. India is, in fact, the world's largest consumer of mangoes, with most of its produce being consumed domestically.

India stores 21 banana containers during export disruptions.
Fresh & Healthy Enterprises (FHEL), a subsidiary of Container Corporation of India, stored and managed 21 containers of bananas for up to one month during disruptions linked to the 2026 conflict, ensuring all consignments were dispatched within shelf life without quality complaints. The disruption affected Indian export routes, leading to the redirection of containers from Iran and the Gulf region. Fauji EXIM was required to manage 21 containers of bananas that were returned during transit without a confirmed destination.

Indian Ladakh apricot exports to rise under new agreement.
The agreement follows efforts to promote the region's GI-tagged 'Raktsey Karpo' and the local 'Halman' apricot varieties. Under the arrangement, around 1,000 metric tons of apricots will be exported this season, compared to 1,500 kg exported over the past two years.
