Quarantine concerns halt Indian mango exports to Japan.
Japan has suspended imports of fresh Indian mangoes for the 2026 season after quarantine inspectors identified deficiencies in fumigation and disinfection procedures at an approved Vapour Heat Treatment (VHT) facility in Rehmanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The suspension applies to mango consignments certified by India on or after March 25, 2026. Premium varieties affected include Alphonso, Kesar, Langra, and Banganapalli.

India's exports rise 15% in April-May despite global uncertainties.
India's merchandise exports recorded around 15% growth during April-May of the current financial year despite continuing global economic uncertainties, a senior government official said on Monday as reported PTI. The commerce ministry is scheduled to release the country's trade data for May on June 15.'During the two months, exports are up by 15 per cent,' the official said.The strong performance follows a robust start to the fiscal year in April, when merchandise exports rose 13.78% year-on-year to $43.56 billion, the highest monthly outbound shipments recorded in more than four years.

Supply is high, and demand is not as strong for the avocados in India, says Abdul Kadir Memon, Director and head of business development & procurement at Abacate International: 'The Indian avocado market is currently going through a challenging phase, particularly during the peak Tanzania season in May and June, when arrivals traditionally increase significantly. This year, the oversupply has now started and is becoming more intense, due to higher overall arrivals combined with slower market movement. At the same time, the overall fresh produce sector in India has been witnessing slower demand and weaker cash flow cycles. Market sentiment across fruits and vegetables has remained subdued in recent weeks, which has also impacted avocado movement. Importers are currently facing a push market rather than a pull market, with supply moving faster than consumption. While seasonal pressure during this period is not unusual, the current slowdown is more pronounced compared to previous years, making the market environment considerably more difficult.'

New Zealand grows kiwifruit partnership with India.
The first bilateral agricultural partnership project launched under the agreement is the Kiwifruit Action Plan, led by Steph Montgomery of the Bioeconomy Science Institute (BSI).
