We are confident agriculture exports will be resilient: APEDA chairman Abhishek Dev. Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) expects sustained growth in agricultural exports in FY 2026 with the opening of new markets and signing of free trade agreements with countries including the UK, chairman Abhishek Dev said on Friday. While 50 per cent tariffs on Indian exports to US have added to concerns, Dev remains optimistic. India’s horticulture output leaps to 367.72 million tonnes. India’s horticulture sector recorded impressive growth over the past decade, driven by the government’s strategy to diversify into high-value agriculture as part of the goal to double farmers’ income in the country. As of August 2025, for 2024-25 (second advanced estimates), horticulture production increased from 280.70 million tonnes in 2013-14 to 367.72 million tonnes. Indian exporters shift focus to new markets amid US tariff hike. Indian exporters of rice, tractors, and certain gems and jewellery items have been diversifying beyond the US to other markets even prior to President Donald Trump imposing 50% tariffs effective August 27. Exports to the US of certain gems and jewellery articles fell 20% to $642.9 million in the June quarter from the year before while surging 76% to $1.6 billion to the UAE. Govt working overtime to cushion export sectors against impact of US tariff, Chief Economic Advisor says. Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) Anantha Nageswaran on Saturday said the central government, along with various stakeholders, are actively working overtime to cushion export sectors in view of the recent imposition of an additional 25 per cent tariff by the United States.
