India identifies nearly 50 export destinations to counter Trump tariffs as US issues levy notice. India is rallying its export activities as Trump’s tariffs go into effect from tomorrow (August 27). The US Homeland Security on Tuesday issued a notification saying that Washington would impose an additional 25 per cent tariff on all Indian-origin goods. President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25 per cent duty on Indian goods over New Delhi’s import of Russian oil. With about 34 lakh hectare (lh) covered during the past week (as against 44 lh in the previous week) and the lead over year-ago period in current season further narrows to 3.4 per cent as of August 22 from 3.7 per cent until August 15, the government is keeping a close watch on likely yield. Food Secretary sees bright sugarcane prospects, urges sugar industry consensus on export quotas.
