India’s unloading of 20m tonnes of rice will plunge Thai prices, exporter warns.
The Thai Rice Exporters Association has warned that Thai rice prices are likely to plunge further next month after the Indian government moves to unload 20 million tonnes of rice from its stockpile. The scenario was predicted by Chukiart Opaswong, honorary president of the association.

Though India is home to more a than a lakh of paddy accessions, as per the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources in June 2025, only 31 rice varieties including Basmati are registered as Geographical Indications (GI). GI tag provides collective yet monopoly rights to farmers belonging to a specific region who have nurtured the cultivation of the paddy over a period of time.

Ghana to import one million metric tons of rice amid rising domestic production.
This comes despite an 18 percent increase in domestic milled rice production, which is expected to reach 900,000 metric tons this season, driven by improved weather conditions and increased farmer participation. 'Looking at dominant varieties, the Delicious group, consisting of Red, Royal, and improved strains, remains a large base in Kashmir. Goods exports to China rise 20% to $5.8 billion during April-July.
India's goods exports to China in the first four months of FY26 rose 20% year on year at $5.76 billion, or about Rs. 50,112 crore, with each month recording higher shipment than a year earlier, official data showed. India posted the highest exports at $1.63 billion in May, up from $1.32 billion in the corresponding month in 2024.
