MoFPI implements R&D initiatives for developing food processing technologies. MoFPI is implementing a Research and Development Scheme, which is a part of Human Resource & Institutions Scheme under the umbrella scheme i.e. Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY). Under the scheme, financial assistance as Grant-in-aid is given to various Universities, IITs, Central/ State Government Institutions, Government funded organisations, R&D laboratories and CSIR recognised R&D units in private sector to promote and undertake demand driven R&D work in food processing sector. Kerala Agri varsity to flag off exports from its new common incubation centre. In a significant stride towards fostering agripreneurship and food innovation, Kerala Agricultural University has established the Common Incubation Centre at the KAU Raftaar Agri Business Incubator in Vellanikkara, Thrissur. The facility, which is to be inaugurated on August 12, has been set up under the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries in which the Ministry has given Rs.2.75 crore. The government is working on measures to boost India's exports, including targeting 50 countries in regions such as the Middle East and Africa, amid the heavy tariffs imposed by the US on Indian goods, an official said on Monday. Rice imports hit 7-year high amid production shortfall. Public and private importers brought in 14.36 lakh tonnes of rice last fiscal year, the highest since FY18, when Bangladesh imported 31.6 lakh tonnes of the staple, according to official data. Odisha exports dragon fruits to Dubai. After entering international markets last year, dragon fruits from Odisha have once again reached global markets continuing their second year. Balangir district of Odisha exported 330 kg of dragon fruits to Dubai on Friday. The Mission envisages the creation of a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for Agriculture, such as Agri Stack, Krishi Decision Support System, a comprehensive Soil Fertility & Profile Map and other IT initiatives undertaken by Central Government/State Governments to enable a robust digital agriculture ecosystem in the country. India-US agri trade at all-time high despite Trump’s tariff threats. Agriculture has been a key roadblock in trade talks between India and the US. But what many may not know is that the trade in the same sector between the two countries, is actually growing fast and could hit a new record this year, as per a report by The Indian Express. From a period of January to June in 2025, India imported $1,693.2 million worth of agricultural products from the US, which is approximately 49.1% more than what it bought during the same period in 2024 ($1,135.8 million).
