MoFPI is implementing a Research and Development Scheme, which is a part of Human Resource & Institutions Scheme under the umbrella scheme i.e. Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY). Under the scheme, financial assistance as Grant-in-aid is given to various Universities, IITs, Central/ State Government Institutions, Government funded organisations, R&D laboratories and CSIR recognised R&D units in private sector to promote and undertake demand driven R&D work in food processing sector.

Kerala Agri varsity to flag off exports from its new common incubation centre.
In a significant stride towards fostering agripreneurship and food innovation, Kerala Agricultural University has established the Common Incubation Centre at the KAU Raftaar Agri Business Incubator in Vellanikkara, Thrissur. The facility, which is to be inaugurated on August 12, has been set up under the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries in which the Ministry has given Rs.2.75 crore.

India can't cross certain red lines: Top officials to Parliamentary panel on trade negotiations with US.
Top officials of the central government, involved in tariff negotiations with the US, suggested that it is a tough phase in trade relations and there are some red lines which India cannot cross, while asserting that India is committed to engage constructively to resolve all outstanding issues with the US through dialogue and mutual respect.

Govt focusing on 50 countries to boost exports.
The government is working on measures to boost India's exports, including targeting 50 countries in regions such as the Middle East and Africa, amid the heavy tariffs imposed by the US on Indian goods, an official said on Monday. These 50 countries account for about 90 per cent of India's exports.

Rice imports hit 7-year high amid production shortfall.
Public and private importers brought in 14.36 lakh tonnes of rice last fiscal year, the highest since FY18, when Bangladesh imported 31.6 lakh tonnes of the staple, according to official data. Experts, however, said Bangladesh was not supposed to import any rice had the production data been correct. The nation was supposed to have a surplus.

Odisha exports dragon fruits to Dubai.
After entering international markets last year, dragon fruits from Odisha have once again reached global markets continuing their second year. Balangir district of Odisha exported 330 kg of dragon fruits to Dubai on Friday. Cultivated in Patnagarh of Odisha, the fruit was sold at Rs. 300 a kg, a 20 per cent increase from last year’s rate of Rs. 50 a kg.

The Government has approved the Digital Agriculture Mission in September 2024. The Mission envisages the creation of a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for Agriculture, such as Agri Stack, Krishi Decision Support System, a comprehensive Soil Fertility & Profile Map and other IT initiatives undertaken by Central Government/State Governments to enable a robust digital agriculture ecosystem in the country. This, in turn, would drive innovative farmer-centric digital solutions and make reliable crop-related information available to all farmers on time.

The central government is strengthening farmer-friendly policies and a technology-based transparent system. In this regard, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, a historic crop insurance claim disbursement event is being organised on 11 August 2025 in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. This programme will be chaired by Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, with Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma as the Chief Guest.

India-US agri trade at all-time high despite Trump’s tariff threats.
Agriculture has been a key roadblock in trade talks between India and the US. But what many may not know is that the trade in the same sector between the two countries, is actually growing fast and could hit a new record this year, as per a report by The Indian Express. From a period of January to June in 2025, India imported $1,693.2 million worth of agricultural products from the US, which is approximately 49.1% more than what it bought during the same period in 2024 ($1,135.8 million). At the same time, India’s agricultural exports to the US also rose by 24.1%, from $2,798.9 million in early 2024 to $3,472.7 million in early 2025.
