Goods exports rise while imports dip, narrowing deficit in August.
Driven by electronics, engineering goods and gems and jewellery, India's goods exports rose 6.7% from a year earlier to $35.1 billion in August despite global uncertainties. Along with a fall in imports, this aided the merchandise trade deficit to narrow to $26.5 billion. The trade deficit was $27.35 billion in the preceding month and $35.6 billion a year earlier. The department of commerce is identifying as many as 100 products to reduce import dependency and improve domestic capabilities.

75% of bajra in top producer Rajasthan may have been damaged, says State Agri Minister.
As high as 75 per cent of the bajra crop in Rajasthan, the top producer of the nutri-cereal in India, may have been damaged due to heavy rain, said State’s Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena. However, a clarity on the situation will be available after the on-going survey is completed by September 20, he said, adding that soyabean, guar and maize have also been impacted

The cumulative exports (merchandise & services) during April-August 2025 is estimated at US$ 349.35 Billion, as compared to US$ 329.03 Billion in April-August 2024, a growth of 6.18%.
India’s total exports (Merchandise and Services combined) for August 2025* is estimated at US$ 69.16 Billion, registering a positive growth of 9.34 percent vis-à-vis August 2024. Total imports (Merchandise and Services combined) for August 2025* is estimated at US$ 79.04 Billion, registering a negative growth of (-) 7 percent vis-à-vis August 2024.

Trump aide to arrive in New Delhi tonight to resume India-US trade talks.
In renewed efforts to strengthen commerce ties, U.S. negotiator Brendan Lynch is set to arrive in India tonight and the two nations will resume trade talks on Tuesday. The sixth round of talks on the bilateral trade agreement (BTA), originally scheduled to begin on August 25 in New Delhi, was postponed as U.S. negotiators pulled out amid escalating rhetoric from the Trump administration. The BTA aims to more than double bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030, up from the current $191 billion.

India-EU FTA: 14th round of negotiations scheduled in Brussels from Oct 6-10.
India and the European Union will hold the 14th round of negotiations for a proposed free trade agreement in Brussels from October 6 to 10. India and the EU are committed to work for a balanced and mutually beneficial free trade agreement soon, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal earlier said on Saturday.

Farm sector clocked world's highest growth at 3.7 pc in Q1: Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
India's agriculture sector recorded a growth rate of 3.7 per cent during the first quarter of 2025-26, the highest globally, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Monday, asserting that the government will continue prioritising farmers' welfare. The sector's performance marks a significant rebound from the 1.5 per cent growth registered in the corresponding period last year.

'India will welcome the first new crop Turkish Gala this September'.
India's imported apple market is seeing fresh activity this season with new origins arriving alongside staple sources, says Vijay Bhatia, Managing Director of fresh produce importer Mheet International. 'Currently, New Zealand and USA apples are available, and from the 21st of September, Turkish apples will start arriving.' Bhatia, who claims to be among the first to load Turkish apples this year, shares, 'Mheet International has loaded two containers, and a business ally has two more from one of Turkey's largest growers and exporters, Gulbudak.' These shipments are from Turkey's 2025 new crop Gala apples.
