Gujarat govt eyes historic 66 lakh tonne groundnut production this year.
Gujarat, which accounts for over 50 per cent of India’s total groundnut production, is projected to achieve a record-high of 66 lakh tonne of groundnut this year, according to the State government. Last year, the groundnut production in the State stood at 52.20 lakh tonne and as per preliminary estimates, Gujarat is expected to achieve 26 per cent more production this year.

India, the world’s second-largest sugar producer, expects sufficient surplus stocks in the season starting October 1 to allow exports, according to a senior government official. India’s sugar surplus may open doors for limited exports in 2025/26.
India should allow exports of 2 million metric tonnes of sugar in the 2025/26 marketing year starting from October 1 as the country is set to produce surplus, the head of a leading industry body said on Thursday. Sugar mills can divert up to 5 million tonnes of sugar for production of ethanol in the new season, Gautam Goel, president of Indian Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association told an industry conference.

India is in 'active dialogue' with the US for a proposed trade deal, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday. He said talks are also on with New Zealand to finalise a trade agreement. Negotiations are also ongoing with the European Union in New Delhi for concluding a free trade agreement (FTA), while a trade pact with Oman is also likely to be reached soon, Goyal said, adding India and Qatar are set to finalise terms of reference for a FTA in the first week of October. India is also in talks with Australia for a second tranche of their bilateral trade pact, the minister said at a FICCI event. 'I say (we are) in active dialogue with the United States of America, with New Zealand. Qatar and I (India) will be finalising the terms of reference, I think, first week of October,' Goyal said. 'Chile, Peru, and frankly (I) have lost track because I am already talking and promising many other nations that we will expedite the discussion...Trade deal with Oman in weeks now,' he said.

Sergio Gor, US envoy-designate to India, says trade deal imminent, strategic ties intact.
US ambassador-designate to India Sergio Gor on Thursday said Washington and New Delhi are 'not that far apart' on tariff issues and indicated an agreement between the two sides is imminent. The upbeat assessment came even as he, along with top officials and lawmakers, talked up long-term strategic ties between the two countries that have been rocked by differences over trade matters. At a confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Gor disclosed that President Trump has invited India’s commerce and trade ministers to visit US and they will be meeting with USTR Jamieson Greer in Washington next week. 'Part of that will include hopefully a deal. We are not that far apart right now... In fact, they're negotiating the nitty gritty of a deal,' Gor said.
