Chilean cherry exports to India almost double.
Chile has nearly doubled its cherry exports to India in the 2024/25 season. With the recent arrival of several sea freight containers, export volumes have surged from 367 tonnes in 2023/24 to 708 tonnes in 2024/25 to date, according to Chilean Cherry Committee of Frutas de Chile.

US President Donald Trump has grouped India alongside China and Brazil as 'tremendous tariff makers', vowing to impose tariffs on countries he claims harm the United States. DPIIT and JKEDI sign MoU to strengthen startup ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir.
Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and the Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering collaboration, mentorship, and support for startups in the region. The signing took place during 'Jammu Kashmir Konnect,' a special startup-focused program organized at JKEDI’s Baribrahamna campus, where startups, incubators, and key-way stakeholders gathered to discuss innovation and growth opportunities. DPIIT and JKEDI formally signed the MoU marking a significant step toward strengthening startup support systems in J&K.

India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting held; leaders focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, technology, food security and renewable energy.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal concluded a successful visit to the Sultanate of Oman from 27-28 January 2025. During the visit, Shri Goyal co-chaired the 11th Session of the India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) with H.E. Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion of Sultanate of Oman. The JCM saw productive discussions on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, technology, food security, renewable energy and other key areas. The Minister held a productive bilateral meeting with Minister Qais during which he undertook a detailed review of the bilateral trade and economic relations between India and Oman and identified concrete steps to further strengthen the mutually beneficial business ties.

Govt upgrades platform to issue certificates of origin.
To simplify the certification process for exporters and enhance trade efficiency, the government Monday said it has upgraded its system of issuing electronically generated certificate of origin to help exporters. The document is important to claim duty concessions under free trade agreements as it proves where the goods originate.

India, Oman decide to expedite trade pact talks, ink protocol to amend tax treaty.
India and Oman have decided to expedite the discussions for an early signing of a bilateral Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), the government said Tuesday. The two sides have also signed the Protocol to amend the India-Oman Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA), aligning it with international standards on cross-border taxation during commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal’s visit to Oman this week.

Bangladesh adds nine potato import stations as prices drop and surplus grows.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has expanded the number of customs stations for potato imports, adding nine more to facilitate the entry of potatoes from Nepal and Bhutan. This decision aims to diversify the sources of potato imports and reduce reliance on India. The newly included customs stations are Rohonpur in Chapainawabganj, Sonahat in Kurigram, Dhanua Kamalpur in Jamalpur, Nakugaon in Sherpur, Gobrakura and Karaitoli in Mymensingh, and Tamabil, Zakiganj, and Sheola in Sylhet. Previously, imports were limited to four stations, including Benapole and Bhomra. The extension is in place until March, as per a recent gazette.
