In his first visit to India as the German Foreign Minister Johann David Wadephul said they are facing a multitude of geopolitical challenges and will only be able to overcome them together with strong partners including India. On PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping’s meeting in Tianjin, Wadephul, in an email interview to Shubhajit Roy ahead of the visit, said the fact India and China have taken steps to normalise ties is 'positive news'. Wadephul, who arrived in Bengaluru Tuesday, will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal Wednesday.

As of August 2025, the second advanced estimates for the 2024-25 season show horticulture production at 367.72 million tons, compared with 280.70 million tons in 2013-14. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution has written to the Ministry of Commerce advising it to restrict the duty-free import of yellow peas, said a senior official with knowledge of the matter. Duty-free imports of yellow peas from countries such as Myanmar, Mozambique, Tanzania and Canada are dampening the mandi, or wholesale, prices of key pulses such as tur, urad, masoor and chana, as the commodity's landed cost is lesser than the minimum support price (MSP) and mandi prices of several other pulses.

India’s coffee exports for the January-August period of calendar 2025 are up 24 per cent in value terms on higher per unit realisation driven by surging global prices. This is despite a 11 per cent drop in volume shipments during the period. Exports stood at $1.46 billion during January-August period s compared with $1.18 billion in the same period a year ago. In rupee terms, exports were higher by 28 per cent at ₹12,673 crore against ₹9,853.94 crore a year ago. The weakening currency aided the growth in rupee terms.

India is holding talks with the US on a bilateral trade deal, Trade Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday.
