India’s rice procurement in the 2024-25 season (October-September) has reached 545.22 lakh tonnes (lt) until August 31, up from 525.22 lt a year ago. Due to higher procurement, the government is now planning a roadmap to dispose of as much surplus grain as possible. The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has already allowed traders to buy a minimum of 1 tonne of rice directly from a depot at the reserve price.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, organised a Capacity Building-cum-Brainstorming Programme at Lal Bahadur Shastri International (LBSI) Airport, Varanasi, with the objective of strengthening agricultural exports from the region.The programme was chaired by divisional commissioner S Rajalingam and saw active participation from senior officials of the Airport Authority of India, Department of Horticulture, Department of Agriculture, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Plant Quarantine (PQ), as well as eminent scientists from institutions such as the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the Indian Institute of Vegetable Research (IIVR).

Farmers in Chendipada of Odisha's Angul district have exported lemons to the United Kingdom for the first time. Around 500 acres (202 hectares) in the region are under lemon cultivation, where the crop is considered an agricultural lifeline. Until now, farmers faced difficulties due to the absence of proper marketing facilities. They sold lemons for Rs20 to Rs30 per hundred fruits (US$0.24–0.36), often below labour costs, with many fruits left to rot.
