Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal Tuesday said trade talks with the EU on a proposed free trade agreement are progressing fast and both sides would be in a position to "substantially conclude" the pact by the time EU trade and agriculture commissioners visit India. Almost 60-65% of the chapters are now completed and finalised, he said.The 13th round of negotiations for the free trade agreement (FTA) are ongoing.

The Commerce Ministry on Tuesday said Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (ECGC) has proposed several measures, including covering losses from non-delivery of goods and providing enhanced cover for banks up to an export credit limit of Rs 50 crore, to help exporters cope with tariff disruptions.

India and Qatar are likely to finalise the terms of reference for a bilateral trade agreement next month and once these are finalised, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal may visit Qatar, officials said on Monday. Goyal is also likely to meet EU trade commissioner MaroS Šefcovic Friday, even as the 13th round of India-EU free trade agreement talks are underway in New Delhi, they said.

The government is actively exploring alternative export destinations and import substitution strategies to protect farmers from the impact of US tariffs, D K Yadava, Deputy Director General (Crop Science) at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), said on Monday. 'The government is trying to have all alternatives to protect the interests of farmers. As far as exports are concerned, the concerned ministries are already exploring alternative countries for the export of various commodities,' Yadava said at a media briefing about the ongoing event 'Dialogue Next' organised by the US-based World Food Prize Foundation for the first time in India.
