Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel Jr. said Wednesday the agency approved the accreditation of 34 Indian companies to supply frozen buffalo meat, locally known as carabeef.

India has initiated a comprehensive sector-wise analysis to assess potential impacts and prepare for possible tariff hikes on exports to the United States (US) under the Donald Trump administration, Economic Times reported citing sources.

Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has been incentivizing setting up/expansion of Food Processing Industries through its Central Sector schemes namely Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY) Scheme, Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) and Centrally Sponsored – Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme across the country. These schemes are not region or state specific but demand driven.

India boasts an abundance of fresh fruits due to diverse climates and fertile soils. According to a report of Government of India 2020-21, India exported fresh fruits valued USD $765.62 million.

The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has initiated several measures to help farmers to enhance their income. The Government's MSP policy for major agricultural commodities seeks to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce with a view to encourage higher investments in farming and boost production and productivity. 

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is in the middle of negotiations with both Pakistan and India to provide a stable supply of 2 million metric tons (MT) of rice to the country annually.
