PM Modi's visit to Ethiopia elevates bilateral ties to a 'Strategic Partnership'
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ethiopia has elevated bilateral ties to a 'Strategic Partnership,' marking a significant milestone in India-Ethiopia relations. The visit yielded several key outcomes, including agreements on customised cooperation, the establishment of a data centre, and UN peacekeeping training. India and Ethiopia also signed an MoU on debt restructuring under the G20 Common Framework, showcasing cooperation on economic issues. Educational exchanges received a boost with doubled ICCR scholarships for Ethiopian students and specialised AI courses under ITEC. In healthcare, India will support the upgrade of Addis Ababa's Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, with a focus on maternal and neonatal care. These agreements reflect the growing partnership between India and Ethiopia across various sectors.

Terms of reference for Mexico trade pact likely next month
India and Mexico are expected to finalise the terms of reference for a preferential trade agreement (PTA) next month, officials said. Terms of reference (ToRs) set the framework and scope for trade-pact negotiations.The proposed PTA aims to resolve issues arising out of Mexico's decision to impose as much as 50% tariffs on imports from its non-preferential trade partners, including India, from January 1. The high tariffs could affect $2 billion of India's exports to Mexico, especially automobiles, two-wheelers, auto parts, textiles, iron and steel.

India’s bigger papaya crop grows over 50%, supports export expansions
India's papaya exports are heading into a stronger phase, supported by a significantly larger crop and better fruit quality overall, says Arvind Jethva of fresh produce exporter Krupali Traders, based in Gujarat. "Papaya production in India is estimated to be about 60% higher than last year, when unfavourable weather sharply reduced exportable volumes. The main producing belts for papaya export are Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh, together supplying a more reliable pipeline for fresh shipments."

India and Argentina sign ICAR-INTA Work Plan 2025-27 to boost bilateral agricultural research and technology exchange
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), Argentina, have signed a Work Plan 2025-2027 to strengthen bilateral cooperation in agricultural research, capacity building, and technology exchange. Dr M.L.Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General, ICAR, and H.E. Mariano Augustin Caucino, Argentinian Ambassador to India exchanged the signed ICAR–INTA Work Plan today, marking a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral agricultural collaboration.

Rayalaseema banana prices recover after northern shipments
Banana growers in India's Rayalaseema region experienced a sharp price decline in November due to oversupply and weak demand. Farmgate prices for bananas fell to Rs 8–10 per kilogram (about US$0.10–0.12 per kg), while lower-grade fruit dropped to around Rs 2 per kilogram (about US$0.02 per kg). Supplies from other producing states, including Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, added pressure to the local market.

Soyameal exports up 38% in Oct-Nov on strong European demand
Production of soyabean meal during the period was up 5 per cent at 16.18 lakh tonnes over 15.39 lakh tonnes a year ago, as per the latest demand supply data released by the Soyabean Processors Association of India. However, the domestic off-take from both the feed and the food sectors has seen a marginal decline during the period. Feed sector off-take of soyabean meal was down by 8.7 per cent at 10.50 lakh tonnes over same period last year’s 11.50 lakh tonnes. Food sector off-take was down 6.66 per cent at 1.40 lakh tonnes from corresponding last year’s 1.50 lakh tonnes.

India–Oman Free Trade Agreement to Unlock New Opportunities Across Key Sectors: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal
Hon’ble Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of Oman, H.E. Mr. Qais Al Yousef in his address said that India has emerged as Oman’s third-largest trading partner and Oman continues to be a key destination for Indian investments across strategic sectors. He stated that Indian investments in Oman have more than tripled since 2020, reaching USD 5 billion, spanning sectors such as green steel, green ammonia, aluminium manufacturing and logistics. He emphasised that these investments reflect India’s confidence in Oman as a long-term operating base. Shri Goyal also highlighted the forthcoming Free Trade Agreement between the two countries as a defining milestone in the bilateral relationship and noted that it would be the first Free Trade Agreement Oman is entering into in nearly two decades. He recalled the centuries-old maritime links between the two countries, including historical trade exchanges through ports such as Lothal, underscoring the enduring nature of India–Oman ties.

Nagaland explores kiwifruit cooperation with New Zealand
Michael Fox, Head of Global Public Affairs at Zespri, said the organisation represents around 2,800 kiwifruit growers in New Zealand and works with approximately 1,200 growers in northern hemisphere production regions. He explained that discussions with Nagaland are part of broader efforts to develop the Indian kiwifruit market, following earlier engagement with the New Zealand government
