19 Dec, 2024 News Image Sri Lanka: 16,000 MT of rice imported within two weeks.
Around 16,000 metric tonnes of rice has been imported to Sri Lanka as of 3:30 p.m. today (18), following the relaxing of import restrictions on rice.
Additional Director General of Customs and Customs Media Spokesperson, Seevali Arukgoda, stated that this total includes 6,000 metric tonnes of Red Raw Rice and 10,000 metric tonnes of Nadu Rice.

Union minister of commerce and industry Piyush Goyal in a written reply to Nashik MP Rajabhau Waje said that as far as export policy of onions is concerned, the Centre has imposed restrictions on onion exports considering the tight domestic supply condition.

The Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Development Project will be presented by the World Bank as an example project for other countries. Three years after the project’s 2016 commencement, the World Bank wrote to the Himachal Government in 2019 to shut it down since it had gotten off to a bad start and seemed certain to fail. Since the project didn’t seem to be progressing, the World Bank essentially opted to end it. The World Bank team head, Bekzod Shamshiev, stated, 'But then the Himachal government and the implementing agencies turned it around so effectively that we now intend to use it as a model project around the world.'

India’s exports saw significant growth across various categories in November 2024 compared to the same month last year. According to a government statement, rice exports surged by an impressive 95.18 per cent, rising from $0.59 billion in November 2023 to $1.14 billion in November 2024. Tobacco exports also experienced a substantial increase of 50.48 per cent.

The state government is contemplating to formulate a Rs 500 crore dedicated project for the rejuvenation of apple cultivation. 'This project will be implemented for five years and will focus on promoting high-density plantations to enhance farmers’ income and strengthen the rural economy,' said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu while chairing a meeting to evaluate the progress of various schemes implemented by the Horticulture Department here today.
