‘India poised to develop world’s shortest-duration mustard variety without losing yield’.
Mustard production this year may be lower, but productivity will not be lower than the previous year’s 1.44 tonne per hectare, said P K Rai, Director of the Bharatpur-based Indian Institute of Rapeseed-Mustard Research. He also said that ICAR is in the process of developing short-duration varieties to combat the impact of climate change without compromising on yield. If that happens, it will probably be the world’s shortest duration variety with a high yield.
