The future of turmeric exports: India’s path to securing global market dominance.
For centuries, India has been known as the ‘Land of Spices,’ producing and exporting a wide variety of products, renowned for their distinctive flavour, aroma and health benefits. One such spice is turmeric, known as the ‘Golden Spice of India’, which has spread through trade beyond South Asia to different parts of the world. Today, turmeric is cultivated in many South Asian countries, China, Africa and the Caribbean and has multiple end-uses spanning industries such as food, condiment, dye, nutraceuticals, cosmetics and medicine.

Punjab to Boost Tomato Production and Paste Manufacturing: S. Ravneet Singh Bittu.
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (GOI), Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Punjab Agro Industries Corporation, and Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) are set to hold joint deliberations to enhance tomato production and paste manufacturing in Punjab. During his visit to the Hindustan Unilever plant in Rajpura, S. Ravneet Singh Bittu, Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, emphasized the need for collaboration among these stakeholders to enable Punjab farmers to grow tomatoes of international standards and subsequently produce tomato paste.

Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Shri Piyush Goyal sets $100 billion target of combined product exports for Food & Beverage, agri and marine industries in next five years.
India has the potential to reach $100 billion of combined exports in the Food & Beverage (F&B), agriculture and marine products industries in the next five years. This was stated by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal during his keynote address at an interaction with the F&B industry stakeholders on the sidelines of Indusfood 2025 today in New Delhi. He emphasised that the target is not very ambitious as the industries need to grow at a combined rate of 14-15%.

India-Nepal Inter-Governmental Committee meeting on trade transit and cooperation to combat unauthorised trade concludes in Kathmandu.
The India-Nepal Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) on Trade, Transit, and Cooperation to Combat Unauthorised Trade was held in Kathmandu from January 10-11, 2025. Secretary, Department of Commerce, Government of India, Shri Sunil Barthwal led the Indian delegation which included senior officials from various Ministries and the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. The Nepali side was headed by Secretary, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Government of Nepal, Mr. Gobinda Bahadur Karkee, accompanied by representatives from different Nepali Ministries and Departments.

Crop diversification could lead to growth of FPOs in Punjab, Haryana.
Crop diversification will fuel the farmer producer organisation (FPO) movement in States such as Punjab and Haryana, former additional secretary PK Swain said on Friday. Participating in a panel discussion on ‘Challenges in Price Risk Management’, Swain said there was no scope for FPOs in Punjab and Haryana, where 96 per cent of the paddy grown by farmers is procured, while 80 per cent of the wheat is procured by the government. Basmati, another major crop grown by farmers in these States, is larely procured by the exporters.

Litchi, Ajwain & Mangrove honey being branded & sold by NDDB’s 26 Honey FPOs.
'Vindhya', 'Chittar', 'Makaranda', 'Moupalak' and 'Sundarini Naturals' are some of the new 'monofloral honey' brands belonging to 26 Honey FPOs or Farmer Producer Organisations, through which over 6000 farmers market and sell their produce. Litchi, Ajwain, Jeera, Musard and Mangrove are some naturally flavoured honey sold by these brands. 'We have started 26 FPOs that are dedicated to honey production.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has assured garlic traders to look into their concerns over illegal imports of the agri commodity, an official said on Saturday. A delegation of garlic traders met the minister on January 10 and highlighted difficulties faced by farmers and traders due to imports of Chinese garlic, the commerce ministry official said.

Record volume of cargo shipped along the Northern Sea Route in 2024.
Russian nuclear major Rosatom has announced the figures for cargo shipments along the Northern Sea Route (NSR) for 2024. The total volume of cargo transported was 37,893.5319 tons, which is almost 37.9 million tons. This represents an increase of more than 1.6 million tons compared to the previous record.
