'We didn't stop trading...' says EAM Jaishankar on trade with Pakistan, calls 'MFN status' 'longstanding concern'.
External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar addressed the status of India's trade relations with Pakistan, clarifying that New Delhi didn't cease trade, but rather, it was the Islamabad administration that decided to halt trading in 2019. 'We did not stop trading. Their administration made the decision in 2019 to not continue trading with us,' Jaishankar said in a press conference in Washington DC on Wednesday (local time).

GI tag for Armoor turmeric soon.
A team of scientists conducted a field study to assign the geographical indication (GI) of Armoor turmeric, which is locally grown in Armoor area of Nizamabad district, carrying many unique features. With the courtesy of Nabard, the team led by Dr Pidigam Saidaiah, principal investigator of the Armoor turmeric project, from Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University along with scientists B. Mahender, P. Srinivas from Kammarapalli Turmeric Research Station and Nizamabad Nabard DDM Praveen Kumar, met to study the GI of Armoor turmeric.

State farmers to take up avocado crop to cash in on rising demand in India.
South American tropical fruit Avocado, which is seeing soaring demand from health conscious consumers, is being taken up for cultivation in the state by enterprising farmers. Known commonly as butter fruit, it is a rich source of healthy fats, disease-fighting and anti-aging antioxidants, and nearly 20 vitamins and minerals.

India transforms from importer to exporter, shipping 135,877 tons of Frozen French Fries in 2023-24.
In 1992, Lamb Weston, an American processed food company, initiated the import of Frozen French Fries (FF) into India, targeting star hotels. Canadian multinational McCain Foods entered the Indian market in 1996 as the exclusive supplier to McDonald’s, marking its debut in the country. The consumption of these crispy straight-cut deep-fried potatoes surged, with imports exceeding 5,000 tons annually by the mid-2000s and reaching a peak of 7,863 tons in the fiscal year 2010-11.

EU and India forge ahead on strategic Partnership with focus on trade, investment and sustainability.
Building on the relaunch of negotiations in 2022 for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the partnership reflects mutual ambitions to enhance economic ties and address shared global challenges. The EU-India trade relationship is already significant, with the EU ranking as India’s third-largest trading partner, accounting for €88 billion in goods trade in 2021 (10.8% of India’s total trade). Meanwhile, India is the EU’s 10th-largest trading partner, making up 2.1% of the bloc’s goods trade. Trade in services between the two reached €30.4 billion in 2020, further highlighting the depth of the economic relationship.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal sets a target of 10000 GI tags by 2030;committee to be formed to oversee implementation.
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal set a target of reaching 10,000 Geographical Indication (GI) Tags by 2030, at the GI Samagam today in New Delhi, organized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and India Today Group. This target will be achieved through a whole of government approach, and the government will constitute a committee to oversee this, added the Minister. The number of GI tags issued by the department till date stands at 605.
