In a major initiative to protect and promote the state’s indigenous agricultural wealth, the Tamil Nadu State Agricultural Marketing Board (TNSAMB) has moved to obtain Geographical Indication (GI) tags for five native farm products. The move, announced in the state’s Agriculture Budget 2025-26, is aimed at enhancing the market value of these traditional crops and improving the livelihoods of farmers engaged in their cultivation.

India’s merchandise trade with G7 nations reached USD 248 billion in the financial year 2024–25 (FY25), growing at a compound annual rate of 13 per cent since FY21, according to data released by Rubix Data Sciences on Tuesday. Exports to the G7 — comprising the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and Japan — stood at USD 138 billion, while imports were recorded at USD 110 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 28 billion. India maintained a surplus with four of the seven countries: the US, UK, France and Italy.
