The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) through implementation of various initiatives and schemes viz. Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), Prime Minister Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) and Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industries (PLISFPI) aims for the overall development of food processing sector including organic food products. Under various component of the aforementioned schemes, the MoFPI provides financial assistance for creation of modern infrastructure with efficient supply chain management from farm gate to retail outlet. The infrastructure created and assistance provided aims at providing better returns to farmers, creation of employment opportunities, reducing wastage, increasing the processing level and enhancing the export of the processed foods including organic food exports.

India and Russia are looking to expand and diversify bilateral trade, targeting $100 billion by 2030. Both nations are also mulling ways to resolve the trade balance, currently heavily skewed in favour of Russia.

05 Dec, 2025 News Image Initiatives to Boost Food Processing and Minimize Loss
The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has been implementing Central Sector umbrella scheme – Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) since 2017-18 across the country. The component schemes under PMKSY are (i) Mega Food Parks (MFP scheme- discontinued w.e.f. 01.04.2021), (ii) Integrated Cold Chain & Value Addition Infrastructure (iii) Creation of Infrastructure for Agro Processing Clusters (APC scheme), (iv) Creation/ Expansion of Food Processing and Preservation Capacities (CEFPPC scheme), (v) Creation of Backward and Forward Linkages (CBFL scheme- discontinued w.e.f. 01.04.2021) and (vi) Operation Greens (OG scheme). The schemes are demand driven and proposals are invited by floating Expression of Interest from time to time based on availability of funds. Under these component schemes, MoFPI provides financial support in the form of grants-in-aid/ subsidy for setting up of food processing projects thereby creating both processing and preservation infrastructure facilities including cold chain infrastructure.

The European Union (EU) is set to curb rice imports from India and other Asian countries as part of its move to protect its growers and millers. The curbs will be imposed through a safeguard mechanism, documents accessed by businessline showed. The move comes despite the EU committing itself to a free trade agreement (FTA) with India, after 11 of 23 chapters agreed upon already. “This is like shutting one door, while opening another,” said a rice industry source.

05 Dec, 2025 News Image Progress of Agro Processing Clusters under PMKSY
Under the scheme, grants-in-aid @ 35% of the eligible project cost is provided in General Areas and 50% of the eligible project cost in North Eastern States including Sikkim and difficult areas including Himalayan States (Himachal Pradesh, J&K & Uttarakhand), notified ITDP areas and Islands subject to a maximum of Rs.10.00 crore. The APC scheme is not sector specific. The scheme envisages for development of common basic enabling infrastructure and core infrastructure as per the requirement of food processing units. As on date, Ministry has approved 40 agro processing clusters since 2020 under the scheme. The details regarding location, operational status, types of investment partners, public and private investment, estimated employment generated, number of farmers benefitted and ancillary units benefitted within each cluster are attached

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday said there are huge opportunities to expand bilateral trade between India and Russia and work towards making it more balanced. He said sectors that hold potential to boost exports from India to Russia include consumer goods, food products, automobiles, tractors, heavy commercial vehicles, electronics like smartphones, industrial components, and textiles. Bilateral trade is reaching USD 70 billion "but we cannot rest, we need to grow, we need to balance that," Goyal said here India-Russia Business Forum meeting, organised by industry chamber FICCI.

Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY) is a central sector demand driven scheme and applications are invited from all eligible applicants including Farmers Producing Organisation (FPOs) through Expression of Interest (EoI) from all over India including Hazaribagh and Koderma districts in Jharkhand. The funds are not allocated/sanctioned/released state-wise under any of the component schemes of PMKSY.

Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, stated that Russia has always been “India’s Sukh Dukh Ka Saathi,” meaning a companion in both good times and difficult times, at the India–Russia Business Forum held today in New Delhi. Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation, Mr. Maxim Oreshkin, was the keynote speaker at the event. He stated that “India-Russia trade has made remarkable strides, with volumes nearing USD 70 billion, yet immense potential remains untapped, as India’s share in Russia’s imports is still under 2%—a figure that does not capture the true ambition of our partnership. Our shared focus is to foster more balanced and mutually rewarding trade, aiming to exceed USD 100 billion by 2030, driven by stronger Indian exports. We see particularly promising avenues for collaboration in consumer goods, food and agriculture, pharmaceuticals and medical supplies, telecom and electronics, industrial components, and the mobility of skilled talent.”

05 Dec, 2025 News Image 33rd meeting of National Horticulture Board held under chairmanship of Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan
Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh directed that scheme implementation be timely, transparent, and farmer-centric, with subsidies provided to farmers on time and no complaints in this regard. He also emphasised developing a special strategy for perishable horticulture produce in farmers’ interest, to increase their shelf life, prevent losses to farmers, and run awareness programs to avoid damage. During the meeting, Union Minister Shri Chouhan gave several strategic suggestions to boost productivity, quality, and competitiveness in the horticulture sector. He instructed special focus on quality planting material, post-harvest management, and productivity enhancement. Shri Shivraj Singh stated that it is essential to strengthen systems to connect farmers comprehensively to markets, cold-chain networks, and value-addition opportunities. He said the NHB should prepare state-wise and region-wise roadmaps and work with full strength for farmers’ benefit.

04 Dec, 2025 News Image India's seafood exports rise, led by EU, China, Vietnam
Exports of seafood from India rose 11.6% on-year in April-October FY26 to $4.69 billion from $4.2 billion a year ago, led by higher shipments to the EU, China, Vietnam, Russia and the UK, an analysis done by the commerce and industry ministry showed. "This compensated for the shortfall caused in exports to the US, following the imposition of high tariff by that country from August 2025 onwards," said an official.
