The Himachal Pradesh govt is soon going to introduce maize flour produced through natural farming under the brand name, 'Himbhog'. Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday said that more than 4,000 quintals of maize were procured from 1,506 farmer families practising natural farming across the state, with the exception of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts. The highest procurement was from Solan district (1,140 quintals), followed by Chamba (810 quintals), and Mandi (650 quintals).

10 Dec, 2024 News Image Norway plans to ratify India-EFTA trade pact next year.

Norway on Sunday said that it plans to ratify the India-EFTA free trade agreement next year, the commerce and industry ministry said. India and the four-nation EFTA (European Free Trade Association) bloc inked the agreement, officially dubbed as Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), on March 10 this year. However, it needs ratification from the four countries for its implementation.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade ( DGFT ) through Notification No. 42/2024-25 dated December 5, 2024, extended the deadline for the export of broken rice – ITC(HS) code 10064000 to Senegal and Gambia through the National Cooperative Exports Limited ( NCEL ).

The Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) was approved by Union Cabinet on March 31, 2021, with a budget of Rs 10,900 crore, to be implemented from 2021-22 to 2026-27, and 171 applicants have been enrolled under the scheme. The beneficiary selection process under PLISFPI was conducted as a one-time exercise, preceded by active stakeholder engagement and extensive publicity to ensure broad participation.

To promote the use of millets in food products and encourage value addition, the Government of India launched the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Millet-based Products (PLISMBP) for the period FY 2022-2023 to FY 2026-2027, with an outlay of Rs. 800 crore. The scheme eliminates the threshold investment requirement, making it accessible to more applicants. To qualify for incentives, companies selected under the scheme must achieve a minimum year-on-year sales growth of 10% over the base year. The scheme incentivizes sales of branded Ready-to-Eat and Ready-to-Cook products in consumer packs that contain over 15% millet by weight or volume.

Himachal Pradesh’s efforts to promote horticulture are yielding promising results, with Mandi district emerging as a hub for producing high-quality fruit plants, including foreign varieties. The Horticulture Department’s Nursery Management Society, under the Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Development Project, has developed apple, apricot and plum plants now being cultivated in Mandi and distributed to other regions.
