Excess and widespread monsoon rainfall this year has lifted India’s kharif foodgrain output to a record 173.33 million tonnes (mt), up 3.87 mt from last year’s 169.4 mt, driven mainly by higher rice and maize production. According to the first advance estimates released on Wednesday, kharif rice output for 2025–26 is pegged at 124.504 mt—1.732 mt higher than last year’s 122.77 mt. Maize production is estimated at 28.303 mt, a sharp increase of 3.495 mt from 24.8 mt a year ago.

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be on a two-day visit to Punjab from November 26–27, 2025, where he will hold direct interactions with farmers and beneficiaries of rural development projects, including MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act). During the visit, he will also hold discussions with office bearers and representatives of various stakeholder institutions associated with these initiatives. As the Union Minister leading the national agenda for agricultural progress and rural empowerment — guided by the vision of a developed rural economy, modern farming systems, and prosperous farmers — Shri Chouhan will use his Punjab visit to assess the on-ground progress of ongoing schemes and provide directions for future action plans.

The government is likely to provide subsidy benefits in the range of 2.5-3 per cent under the Interest Equalisation Scheme to exporters in certain sectors for pre- and post-shipment credit, according to an official. The scheme details are expected to be released next week.The official also said that the annual benefit may be capped at Rs 50 lakh per exporter.

The Commerce Ministry has started a full-scale mapping of mandatory and voluntary non-tariff measures (NTMs) that Indian exporters face in overseas markets, news agency PTI reported on November 25. The move by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is part of preparations for the newly approved Export Promotion Mission. It aims to create a central database that will help exporters navigate technical compliance demands, reduce trade hurdles and improve the quality of outbound shipments. The DGFT has asked exporters, industry bodies, export promotion councils and commodity boards to share all relevant information on NTMs within seven days. The information will include certification requirements, testing procedures, inspections, audits and labelling rules imposed by destination countries.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said Monday that Canada and India will move quickly to advance a trade deal after two years of strained relations, noting Ottawa has a new foreign policy in response to US President Donald Trump's trade war. Anand's statement follows a meeting between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Group of 20 summit in South Africa this past weekend, where the leaders agreed to restart stalled talks for a new trade deal.

Mango growers from Dharwad are assessing the airport at Mopa as a potential export corridor to markets such as Singapore, West Asia, and Europe. The region around Goa, particularly the Dharwad belt, has about 60,000 acres of mango cultivation, equal to about 24,281 hectares. GCCI agriculture committee chairman Mahesh Patil said the airport could become a key hub for this production zone. Patil led a group of growers from the Mavu Belegarar Balaga, Dharwad, to review cargo operations at Mopa. He noted that growers previously made their first export shipment through Chintamani, which is 8.5 hours from Dharwad. With Mopa four hours away, they expect lower transit damage and reduced logistical costs.
