India’s wheat sowing up 19% as overall rabi crops acreage gains 12%
Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare showed that the overall acreage was up at 306.31 lakh hectares (lh) compared with 272.78 lh a year ago. The normal coverage of rabi crops is 637.81 lh. By this weekend, at least 50 per cent of this normal coverage is expected to be completed.There are two reasons for the higher rabi coverage. One is the good soil moisture with rain under the South-West monsoon continuing in October and the North-East monsoon bringing surplus rainfall until a hiatus in the first fortnight of November.

India, the world’s largest rice exporter, is poised to break its own record for rice exports in 2025-26, driven by a surge in domestic production, a sharp recovery in shipments, and new efforts to tap underserved export markets, an industry body told ThePrint.

Senegal import pause pressures Indian 100% broken rice: Platts
Platts assessed Indian 100% broken at US$298/MT on Nov. 20, down US$6 /MT month on month, as shipments destined for Dakar face potential diversion to other markets amid the suspension. Senegal, which imports approximately 1.65 million mt of milled rice annually to cover about 70% of its domestic demand, paused imports to reduce local oversupply.

West Bengal’s potato cultivation area unlikely to increase this year
The total area under potato cultivation in West Bengal is not likely to increase this year compared to last year, as acreage may shrink in some of the major potato growing regions of the State. In Bengal, the country’s second-largest producer of the spud, land under potato cultivation was around 4.9 lakh hectares in 2024-25. Total production of the tuber in the State was estimated to be around 115 lakh tonnes last year, which was a bumper output.

Chaired by Piyush Goyal, Board of Trade to meet on Tuesday to discuss ways to boost exports
The Board of Trade (BoT) is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, to discuss strategies to boost India's exports amid the steep tariffs imposed by the US, an official has said.Headed by the minister, the board includes participants from various states, Union territories, and senior officials from the public and private sectors.In the meeting, representatives of export promotion councils, along with other participants, will present their views on the export sector.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday emphasised the need for "farmer producer companies" for the progress of cultivators.Addressing a workshop on farmer producer organisation, he said all problems of cultivators must be solved at commissionerate level in districts through the farmer producer company."We need to form a organisation/ apex body of farmer producer company for the progress and development of farmers. With farmer producer company, they can utilise agriculture equipment, tractor, harvester and other things and it easy to pay loans," he said.

Govt working to strengthen farmers’ economy: Horticulture Minister
During the visit, the minister issued strict directions to officials of the Horticulture and Jal Shakti Departments to ensure effective on-ground implementation of the project. Under the cluster in Khurahal, approximately 11 hectares have been earmarked for the cultivation of persimmon (Japanese fruit).At present, in the Sundernagar block, around 83 hectares of land across six clusters is under cultivation of guava, litchi, plum and sweet orange. With the addition of the Khurahal cluster, the number has now risen to seven clusters.

Canada, India agree to restart trade talks, push for $50 billion bilateral target by 2030
Canada and India have agreed to restart stalled talks for a new trade deal, the Indian government said on Sunday, after discussions between the two countries paused following a diplomatic spat two years ago.Prime Minister Mark Carney met with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a bilateral discussion on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
