New pomegranate varieties could broaden India’s export prospects.
Weather disruptions caused delays in fruit setting and harvest, prompting exporters to adopt improved pre-harvest and post-harvest practices, Savalkar shares. 'Despite these challenges, the quality of the Bhagwa variety has improved, showing better color and sweetness. However, prices in export markets have softened by 5–7% compared to the previous season, mainly due to increased availability from competing origins and fluctuating demand in Europe. Yet, premium shipments to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar have continued to fetch strong returns, matching last year's levels.'

India considers easing wheat product export ban amid record harvest.
India’s agriculture ministry has estimated wheat production at a record 117.5 million tonnes for the MY 2024/25, a 3.7% increase from the previous year. This significant surplus has prompted the government to consider relaxing the ban on exports of wheat products such as flour and semolina. Food Minister Pralhad Joshi announced this during the 85th annual general meeting of the Roller Flour Millers’ Federation of India (RFMF) on September 24, 2025.

Russian Deputy PM Dmitry Patrushev eyes JVs with India in agriculture.
Russian deputy prime minister Dmitry Patrushev is leading one of the biggest ever Russian delegations to India to attend the World Food India expo that kicked off on Thursday, eyeing joint ventures in agriculture and related areas, including fertilisers. Russia is a key global player in fertilisers and other agri-related sectors and India-Russia partnership in these areas would strengthen multipolarity and take the two countries' partnership beyond a purely buyer-seller relationship, a person aware of the negotiations explained. Patrushev's visit could also help finetune bilateral strategy to export shrimps to Russia.

India buys record Argentine soy oil volume after export duty scrapped, sources say.
India purchased 300,000 metric tons of soyoil from Argentina during Tuesday and Wednesday, the largest ever purchase in a two-day period, dealers said, taking advantage of Buenos Aires' move to scrap export taxes on soybeans and other food products. The aggressive purchases will help Argentina cut its soyoil stocks, but could also mean fewer palm oil shipments from Indonesia and Malaysia to India.

Exporters welcome mandatory APEDA registration for non-basmati rice.
India’s decision to make prior registration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) mandatory for non-basmati rice exports will enable the government to have greater control over shipments, but it will not have any immediate impact on trade apart from adding a minimal cost, stakeholders said on Thursday. APEDA promotes exports of agri-products such as rice, fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy, and develops markets and infrastructure.

India to impose Rs.8 a tonne fee to register non-basmati rice exports.
After introducing mandatory registration of contracts for export of non-basmati rice, the Indian government has decided to levy a token fee of Rs.8 per tonne to promote the staple cereal as an India brand. Currently, several varieties are exported in bulk and they lose identity in the foreign soil as an Indian variety when packed by local importers for retail sales there. Unlike the basmati industry, which got divided after a recent hike in the fee, all the three non-basmati exporters associations have supported the move of the government and are hopeful of yielding tangible results.

India's Export-Import (EXIM) Bank is increasing credit support to exporters and helping them diversify into newer markets, particularly Africa, following punitive U.S. tariffs on imports from the South Asian nation, a top official said. State-owned EXIM Bank - which provides export financing and backs loans granted by commercial lenders to buyers of Indian goods - has eased risk limits on at least a fourth of its overseas banking partners, said Tarun Sharma, the deputy managing director at EXIM Bank of India.
