Indian research centre develops new banana clones for 2025 .
The ICAR–National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB) in Tamil Nadu is developing two new high-yielding and climate-resilient banana clones that are expected to be launched by late 2025 or early 2026. NRCB Director R Selvarajan said the institute has safeguarded 520 banana varieties collected across India, forming one of the largest banana gene banks. 'We are protecting 520 varieties and helping farmers cultivate more in their regions, including the north-eastern states,' he said.

Plant protection a thorn in boosting India, Russia agricultural trade.
India and Russia are looking to expand their cooperation in trade and education in the agriculture sector by removing some bottlenecks, but given the resistance to move forward with suitable reforms, it may take time to reach some agreements. As Russia has been insisting on earmarking a pest-free zone for enabling more exports, India has been arguing it should be based on testing of products for pests.

Air cargo demand extends growth streak to 6 months driven by trade shifts and strong asia performance.
Global air cargo markets continued their positive trajectory in August 2025, with demand rising 4.1% year-on-year, marking the sixth consecutive month of growth, according to the latest data released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTK), saw international operations rise even faster at 5.1%. Meanwhile, overall capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometres (ACTK), kept pace with a 3.7% increase.

India-European Free Trade Association Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) to come into effect on 01 October 2025.
India-European Free Trade Association(EFTA) Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) will come into effect on 01 October 2025. The agreement was signed on 10th March 2024 at New Delhi.TEPA is a modern and ambitious agreement that incorporates, for the first time in any Free Trade Agreement (FTA) signed by India, a commitment linked to investment and job creation.

India’s first Europe-facing trade pact comes into effect on October 1.
India is set to formally operationalise its trade agreement with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) bloc on October 1, marking the country’s first-ever trade pact with a European grouping. The government will host a high-profile launch event at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, senior ministers from the EFTA nations, government officials, and industry representatives in attendance, as per a Business Standard report.

India is negotiating free trade agreements (FTAs) with a number of countries including the US, New Zealand, Oman, Peru, Chile, and the European Union, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday. He said that Qatar and Bahrain too are keen to negotiate trade pacts with India.

FTA with EFTA to come into effect from October 1, 2025: Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal at UP International Trade Show.
The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the EFTA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland), which was finalised in March 2024, will come into effect from October 1, 2025, said Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, while addressing the valedictory session of the UP International Trade Show today. Shri Goyal informed that the developed nations are keen to sign Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with India, which has already concluded such agreements with the UAE, Australia and the UK. India’s foreign exchange reserves have reached USD 700 billion.
