Egypt And India Strengthen Economic Ties In Key Meeting.
In a significant meeting on March 19, 2025, Egyptian Minister of Investment Hassan Al-Khatib and Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar came together to explore ways to enhance the economic and trade relationships between Egypt and India. Emphasizing the critical role that Indian companies play in the Egyptian economy, Minister Al-Khatib noted that currently, there are 55 Indian companies operating across various sectors in Egypt, with total investments amounting to approximately $3.75 billion.

India’s pulses import bill tops $5-billion mark for FY25.
India’s pulses import bill has crossed a whopping $5 billion for the current financial year on record purchases of tur (pigeon peas/arhar) and chickpeas (chana or gram) by the largest consuming country in the world. Per the Commerce Ministry’s quick estimates, pulses imports crossed $5.03 billion during the April-February period of fiscal 2024-25 – up 58.75 per cent over $3.17 billion a year ago. Overall, imports during 2023-24 were $3.74 billion and the previous high was $4.24 billion during 2016-17.

APEDA Regional Head Reviews Export Potential of Agro-Based Products in Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
The Department of Agriculture, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, is making strides to boost agricultural exports and promote local products in the international market. In line with this goal, under the direction of Chief Secretary Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, a series of initiatives have been undertaken to explore opportunities for strengthening the supply chain and creating better prospects for agricultural entrepreneurs in the region. Several stakeholder meetings were conducted under the Chairmanship of Secretary (Agriculture), Ms. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).

Initiatives undertaken to Promote Organic Farming.
Government is promoting organic farming through the schemes of Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) in all the States/UTs and Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) scheme is being implemented. Both the schemes stress on end-to-end support to farmers engaged in organic farming i.e. from production to post-harvest management training and capacity building. The main focus of the PKVY and MOVCDNER schemes is to promote natural resource based integrated and climate resilient sustainable farming systems that ensure maintenance and increase of soil fertility, natural resource conservation, on-farm nutrient recycling and minimize dependence of farmers on external inputs.

Strongly taken up trade restrictive measures with EU: Govt to Parliament.
The government has strongly taken up all trade restrictive measures, either within the World Trade Organization framework or otherwise, with the EU and its member states at relevant multilateral and bilateral forums including at the India-EU Trade and Technology Council and the India-EU High Level Dialogue, Parliament was informed Tuesday.

India-Malaysia MoS Level Bilateral Meeting held in New Delhi.
The Union Minister of State for Commerce & Industry and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Jitin Prasada had a bilateral meeting with Mr. Liew Chin Tong, Malaysian Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry on 18th March 2025, in Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi. Malaysian Diplomats and Senior Govt. Officials from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, Malaysia and from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Ministry of External Affairs and Bureau of Indian Standards from Govt of India were also present during the meeting.

Madhya Pradesh: Agriculture now profitable venture in state: CM.
CM Mohan Yadav on Tuesday said agriculture has become a profitable venture in the state due to continuous innovations and reforms. The state had surpassed Punjab, Haryana and other agricultural leaders in farm development, Yadav told a visiting National Defence College (NDC) delegation. The CM highlighted the massive expansion of irrigation in MP, stating while only 7 lakh hectares of farmland were irrigated in 2002-03, the figure now exceeds 55 lakh hectares. He credited this for improving both productivity and sustainability for farmers.

India and New Zealand working on a comprehensive, mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement: Shri Piyush Goyal.
India and New Zealand are working to finalize a comprehensive and mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement. Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, said this while addressing the CEOs of India and New Zealand in New Delhi today. The two countries had announced the launch of negotiations for an FTA earlier this week. The event today was attended by the Right Honourable Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister of New Zealand, Hon'ble Mr. Todd McClay, New Zealand's Minister for Trade and Investment, Agriculture and Forestry, business leaders and senior officers of the two countries.
