Union Minister for Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan today held review meeting on Agriculture issues with the senior officials of the Agriculture Ministry. Several issues related to the farm produce, marketing of Agri products including the import and export of the produce and weather conditions figured in the review meeting. The Minister said, apart from he himself holding weekly meeting on the farm issues, he shall also periodically hold meetings with the State Governments at the Agriculture Ministers level. He wanted even the officials to consistently engage with the State Governments on these issues, as addressing the issues at ground level would require involvement of the State Governments officials.

Soyameal exports are up a tad during December at 2.77 lakh tonnes (lt) on higher demand from European buyers such as Germany and Netherlands. However, the offtake by the domestic livestock feed sector was flat at 5.5 lt, as per the latest estimates by the trade body Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA).

The Commerce Ministry's arm DGFT on Monday updated the export policy for all products, specifying detailed conditions for each item to enhance the ease of doing business in the country. During his visit to the Hindustan Unilever plant in Rajpura, S. Ravneet Singh Bittu, Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries, emphasized the need for collaboration among these stakeholders to enable Punjab farmers to grow tomatoes of international standards and subsequently produce tomato paste.
