India and the Netherlands are scaling up their agricultural partnership with a sharper focus on innovation, sustainability, and capacity-building, as reflected in the 8th Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting held at Krishi Bhawan. The meeting, co-chaired by Priya Ranjan, Joint Secretary (Horticulture), Government of India, and Guido Landheer from the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, signaled a shift from traditional cooperation to shared agritech transformation.

India, EU begin talks to resolve key issues in proposed bilateral free trade agreement.
India and the European Union on Monday began discussions to resolve key outstanding issues in their proposed free trade agreement (FTA), the commerce and industry ministry said, adding that the focus would be on core areas such as trade in goods, services, rules of origin, and technical and institutional matters. Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal had a virtual meeting with MaroS Šefcovic, European commissioner for trade and economic security, and agriculture and food commissioner Christophe Hansen. European negotiators are in Delhi from November 3-7 for the negotiations.

BIRC 2025 concludes with Rs 30,435-Cr MoUs.
The two-day Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) 2025 concluded at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, marking a significant boost for India’s agricultural exports and advancements in rice processing technology. Supported by the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, along with several government and industry bodies, the conference drew an impressive 10,854 visitors, including 1,083 international buyers and 154 exhibitors from across the country. Strengthening India’s trade partnerships, MoUs worth Rs 30,435crore were signed on the concluding day alone, underscoring growing global confidence in India’s rice sector.

Early start to Rabi sowing helps increase area by 15% till Oct end.
Total sowing area under all rabi crops has reached 75.8 lakh hectares (lh) as of October 31, against 65.9 lh in the year-ago period, up by 15 per cent. Barring maize, paddy and jowar, the acreage of all other winter-grown crops is higher as per preliminary reports received from States.

Agri exports up 12 per cent during H1 at $13.93 billion.
India’s agri exports grew by about 12 per cent during the first half of the current financial year with shipments of products such as non-basmati rice, buffalo meat and pulses among others registering an increase during the period on higher demand. The shipment value of agri products monitored by Apeda grew to $13.936 million during April-Sept 2025-26, up from $12.475 billion in the corresponding previous year.

Rice procurement up 46%, govt purchase was over 70 lt in Oct 16-31.
Centre’s rice purchase at minimum support price (MSP) got a further boost during the second half of October as the Food Corporation of India (FCI) was able to procure over 70 lakh tonnes (lt) against about 60 lt a year-ago. The total purchase in October crossed 119 lt, while it was 81.85 lt the corresponding period last year. Rice procurement in the first fortnight of October was 48.47 lt.

India-New Zealand FTA: Fourth round of negotiations begin.
India and New Zealand on Monday started the fourth round of negotiations in Auckland for the proposed FTA, focusing on key areas including trade in goods and services, and rules of origin, the commerce and industry ministry said. Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal will visit Auckland this week to meet his New Zealand counterpart Todd McClay to review the progress of negotiations, which were formally launched on March 16. The 4th round of FTA talks is being held from November 3.

India should continue trade negotiations with US, fasten FTA talks: EAC-PM chairman Dev.
India should diversify exports to other countries, fasten free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations and also continue dialogues with Washington to conclude the proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) with the US, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) Chairman S Mahendra Dev said on Friday. Addressing 'First ISID@40 Distinguished Person Lecture', Dev said despite protection policies and reduction in international trade, there are a lot of opportunities for India to increase its share in world merchandise trade.
