Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan today inaugurated the National FPO Conclave 2025 in Delhi. The event saw the participation of over 500 progressive farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Implementing Agencies (IAs), and Cluster-Based Business Organizations (CBBOs) from 24 states and 140 districts across India. Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister lauded the efforts of farmers, FPO members, and participating institutions, calling upon them to transform farmers from producers to entrepreneurs and traders so that the full benefit reaches them directly.

The Centre announced on Wednesday a 10% import duty and an additional 20% Agriculture Infrastructure Development Cess (AIDC) on yellow pea imports, to be effective from November 1. The total levy of 30% marks a significant policy shift aimed at supporting domestic pulse growers ahead of the upcoming kharif season.

Sowing of rabi (winter) pulses-chana and masoor-is expected to pick up after the government's move to impose 10% import duty and additional 20% agriculture infrastructure development cess on yellow pea imports. The levies will increase the landing price of imported yellow peas and help firm up prices of domestic pulses, said Suresh Aggarwal, president, All India Dal Mill Association.

The Government of India will set up a stakeholder group to address onion storage issues and explore new export markets to help recover lost global share. A delegation of onion exporters met Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi with officials from APEDA to discuss sector challenges. The minister acknowledged their concerns but said raising RODTEP rates or offering transport subsidies was not possible under WTO rules. He directed APEDA to work with the Agriculture Ministry and the Department of Consumer Affairs to develop solutions.

Australian researchers have created tiny structures to help supercharge photosynthesis, potentially boosting wheat and rice yields while slashing water and nitrogen use. A media statement said that researchers from Associate Professor Yu Heng Lau’s group at the University of Sydney and Professor Spencer Whitney’s group at Australian National University have spent five years tackling the problem to make plants fix carbon more efficiently.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, has facilitated the first-ever air shipment of 350 kg of India’s GI-tagged Indi Lime from Vijayapura, Karnataka and 150 kg Puliyankudi Lime from Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu, to the United Kingdom on 28th October, 2025. The 500 kg consignment was exported, marking a significant milestone in expanding the global footprint of India’s GI-tagged horticultural produce.
