Canadian yellow peas hit with India's new 30 per cent tariff on all imports.
Canadian yellow pea producers will now face tariffs in both of their major export markets after India announced a new 30 per cent levy on all imported yellow peas beginning Nov. 1. China imposed a 100 per cent tariff on Canadian yellow peas in March. It was seen as an act of retaliation for Canada's introduction of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.

Policy push tariff hike on peas may boost pulses sowing in Rabi.
Sowing of rabi (winter) pulses-chana and masoor-is expected to pick up after the government's move to impose 10% import duty and additional 20% agriculture infrastructure development cess on yellow pea imports. The levies will increase the landing price of imported yellow peas and help firm up prices of domestic pulses, said Suresh Aggarwal, president, All India Dal Mill Association.

India's coffee exports hit $1.8 billion in FY25, continues four-year growth streak.
India's coffee exports have continued their strong upward trajectory, maintaining their billion-dollar streak for the fourth consecutive financial year, according to the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. During the financial year 2024-25, India's coffee exports reached $1.80 billion, marking a 40.2 per cent growth over the $1.28 billion achieved in FY 2023-24, the department said in a X post, attached with it an infographic.

Cyprus sees India as natural partner, ally in current situation: FM Kombos.
India is emerging as a 'leading voice' in an increasing multipolar world and Cyprus sees New Delhi not only as an 'old friend', but also as a 'partner' for future cooperation, Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos said here on Thursday. In his address at an event, Kombos also said the 'successful conclusion' of the EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will not only strengthen the EU-India ties, but will also unlock 'immense economic opportunity' for Cyprus, India and all European countries.

India - Sri Lanka 1st Joint Working Group Meeting on Agriculture held today.
The first Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on Agriculture between India and Sri Lanka was held today at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, and Mr. D. P. Wickramasinghe, Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, Government of Sri Lanka. Both sides discussed collaboration in key areas including farm mechanization, organic and natural farming, seed sector development, agri-entrepreneurship, agricultural education, soil health management, market access, and climate-resilient agriculture. Opportunities for joint research, and capacity building were also explored.

India's rice exports to rise over 10 pc in FY26 in quantity terms: APEDA Chairman.
India's rice exports in volume terms is likely to rise more than 10 per cent during this fiscal on better demand from overseas markets, APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev said on Thursday. In the 2024-25 fiscal, India exported 20.1 million tonnes of rice valued at USD 12.95 billion, reaching more than 172 countries..

India exports GI-tagged limes to UK for first time; boost for farmers and agri trade, says Piyush Goyal.
The Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said that the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Department of Commerce, has facilitated the first-ever air shipment of GI-tagged Indi Lime from Karnataka and Puliyankudi Lime from Tamil Nadu to the United Kingdom. 'A major boost to our farmers! @APEDADOC facilitates the first-ever air shipment of GI-tagged Indi Lime from Karnataka & Puliyankudi Lime from Tamil Nadu to the United Kingdom. This milestone will empower farmers, open fresh avenues & strengthen the presence of India's agri-products in global markets,' Piyush Goyal wrote on X.

Agriculture must double to $1 trillion for India's $10-trillion dream: Experts.
India's agriculture sector needs to double its economic contribution to nearly USD 1 trillion from about USD 450 billion to help the country achieve its goal of becoming a USD 10-trillion economy by 2047, industry experts said on Thursday. While agriculture employs nearly 46 per cent of India's workforce, its value addition remains disproportionately low at about 15 per cent of gross domestic product, highlighting the need for policy reforms and increased private investment, they said.
