Feb 20, 2025 News Image Jaishankar to visit UK, Ireland in March; trade and economic ties top agenda.
Trade and economic cooperation and bolstering people-to-people ties will top the agenda for external affairs minister S Jaishankar’s week-long visit to the United Kingdom and Ireland next month, people familiar with the matter said. Jaishankar is set to travel to Britain and Ireland during March 3-9, days after the planned relaunch of negotiations on the India-UK free trade agreement (FTA) in New Delhi, the people said on condition of anonymity. This will also be the first high-level visit to Ireland since 2015, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi travelled to Dublin.

The bilateral trade between India and the UAE grew 21.35 per cent to USD 80.51 billion during the April-January period this fiscal year, according to the commerce ministry data.

On the sidelines of the visit of H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Amir of Qatar to India from 17-18 February, Confederation of Indian Industry, in partnership with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) organised the India-Qatar Joint Business Forum on 18th February 2025 in New Delhi. The Joint Business Forum was graced by Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India and H.E. Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry, State of Qatar, who delivered keynote address at the Business Forum.

In a celebration of India’s rich agricultural heritage and the growing demand for sustainable farming, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) organized participation of Indian exporters under India Pavilion at BIOFACH 2025 held from February 11 to 14, 2025 at Messezentrum in Nuremberg, Germany. The APEDA India pavilion at BIOFACH 2025 was inaugurated by Shri Shatrughna Sinha, Consul General of India, Munich along with Shri Abhishek Dev, Chairman, APEDA.

Israel and India are seeking to sign a long-touted free trade agreement as early as this year, with US President Donald Trump revamping plans for a proposed US-India trade corridor through Israel. Leading a large business delegation to New Delhi last week, Economy Minister Nir Barkat, said that the visit marked 'a breakthrough in the economic relations between Israel and India.'

Rice imports by China are expected to set a new record in 2015, surpassing 2014 levels by 200,000 metric tons and marking the fourth consecutive year of record imports. Rice imports surged in 2012 to more than 7 times the average of the previous 5 years, and continued to grow each year thereafter.

After last year’s failed mango export deal due to poor yield and quality concerns, the Malda district administration has begun preparations early this season to ensure smooth overseas shipments. On Monday evening, officials from the district administration and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) held a meeting to strategise mango exports.
