Boosting Food Processing & Storage Infrastructure in India.
Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY) was envisaged as a comprehensive package which will result in creation of modern infrastructure with efficient supply chain management from farm gate to retail outlet. It will not only provide a big boost to the growth of food processing sector in the country but also improve the capacity of food processing units which help in providing better returns to farmers and creating employment opportunities especially in the rural areas, reducing wastage of agricultural produce, increasing the processing level and enhancing the export of the processed foods.

Questions raised over beef exports, amid shortage in local supply.
Expressing deep concern over beef exports, the United Goans Foundation (UGF) has called for an inquiry to understand if Goa Meat Complex is exporting beef, leading to a shortage in Goa. The govt-run abattoir appears to be prioritising exports instead of fulfilling its primary objective of catering to the local population, said UGF executive committee member Dominic Noronha.

India introduces new HS code to allow exports of GI-recognised rice varieties.
India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has come up with an amendment to the Customs Tariff Act to provide for an HS (Harmonised System) code, for the export of geographical indication (GI) recognised rice.

The Government of India approved the continuation of the integrated Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) Scheme during the 15th Finance Commission Cycle up to 2025-26. Integrated Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA) Scheme comprises Price Support Scheme (PSS), Price Deficiency Payment Scheme (PDPS), Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) and Price Stabilisation Funds (PSF).

APEDA asks rice exporters to adhere to the EU pesticide residue cap on stem borer insecticide.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has asked rice exporters to adhere to the new maximum residue limit (MRL) set by the European Union (EU) for Thiacloprid, which is used against stem borer menace.

Bangladesh HC in New Delhi suggests govt to import sugar from India.
As India allowed its mills to export sugar after two years, the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi has recommended the authorities concerned to consider importing the sweetener from the neighbouring country. The commission communicated the development recently with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which was forwarded to the Ministry of Commerce and suggested taking necessary measures in this regard.

Promotion of Organic Farming.
Government is promoting organic farming through the schemes of Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) in all the States/UTs (except North Eastern States). For North Eastern States, the Government is implementing Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) scheme. Both the schemes stress on end-to-end support to farmers engaged in organic farming i.e. from production to processing, certification & marketing and post-harvest management training and capacity building.

Kashmir’s apple nurseries: A Rs.100 crore industry driving high-density cultivation.
Inside numerous poly tents at various nurseries in Qaimoh block, about 60 km South of Srinagar, bundles of rootstock plants and apple seedlings are stocked for sale. Come mid-February, the apple cultivators from different parts of the valley make a beeline for the area to buy plant material for their orchards.
