India's exports are growing significantly and would achieve a record USD 800 billion in 2024-25 fiscal year, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Friday. 'Exports have been growing and have risen significantly in the last four years. This year also, there will be growth. We will end the year with over USD 800 billion exports for the very first time in India's history,' Goyal said during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha.

During the sectoral session on international trade at Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) on Thursday, foreign delegates were briefed by state exporters on their objective of increasing the overseas export volume of crops, apparel, textiles and leather goods. Industrialists from Bengal are seeking foreign investment opportunities in key sectors such as maize- and rice-based agriculture, solar pumps, multipurpose cold storage facilities with advanced technology, the export of raw honey, exotic fruits and flowers, worldwide commodity-specific marketing channels, and the establishment of a centre for transportation and logistics and inland container depots, among others.

Government is promoting organic farming through the schemes of Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) in all the States/UTs (except North Eastern States). For North Eastern States, the Government is implementing Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) scheme. Both the schemes stress on end-to-end support to farmers engaged in organic farming i.e. from production to processing, certification & marketing and post-harvest management training and capacity building.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said India is in talks with the European Union to resolve issues related to the new EU trade regulations. Responding to queries on EU trade barriers in the Rajya Sabha, Goyal said the EU has introduced new regulations for their own industries. 'There is certainly an issue where the EU has come up with new regulations which we are actively discussing with them to resolve,' he said.

As India allowed its mills to export sugar after two years, the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi has recommended the authorities concerned to consider importing the sweetener from the neighbouring country. The commission communicated the development recently with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which was forwarded to the Ministry of Commerce and suggested taking necessary measures in this regard.

Indian rice export prices dropped to an over 19-month low this week, weighed down by rising supplies from the new season crop and a plummeting rupee, while Vietnam's rates slid to their lowest level since early September 2022. India's 5% broken parboiled variety was quoted at $418 to $428 per metric ton this week, down from last week's $429 to $435. Indian 5% broken white rice was quoted at $395 to $405 this week.

The Centre will upgrade e-NAM platform to facilitate onboarding of logistic service providers in a move to address logistic hurdles faced in inter-state and inter-mandi trade, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in Parliament on Friday. Inter-state trade of 23,121 tonnes worth Rs 65.48 crore has been recorded on e-NAM platform till December 2024, he said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
