India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) – comprising Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein – have taken a significant step towards deeper economic collaboration with the inauguration of the India-EFTA Desk. This initiative follows the recently concluded India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), which positions EFTA as the first European bloc to formalize a trade pact with India. Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal hailed TEPA as a landmark agreement, emphasizing India’s growing role in global trade. The Centre has extended the procurement of soyabean in Maharashtra by 24 days (until February 24) and in Telangana by 15 days (until February 15) to protect farmers’ interests. Expressing deep concern over beef exports, the United Goans Foundation (UGF) has called for an inquiry to understand if Goa Meat Complex is exporting beef, leading to a shortage in Goa. The govt-run abattoir appears to be prioritising exports instead of fulfilling its primary objective of catering to the local population, said UGF executive committee member Dominic Noronha.
