The Budget announcement to set up BharatTradeNet as a unified platform for trade documentation and financing solutions is an ambitious proposal and there is a plan to create a not-for-profit company to implement this project, a senior government official said on Tuesday. Proposed on the lines of Unified Payments Interface (UPI), the platform will help in moving towards complete digitisation of the entire range of trade documentation and then allow seamless operability of different agencies whichare involved in this, Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Santosh Kumar Saranagi told reporters here.

Bilateral trade turnover between Việt Nam and India reached around US$15 billion in 2024, marking a 4.5 per cent increase compared to 2023, according to the General Department of Việt Nam Customs. Of this total, Việt Nam’s exports to India amounted to $9.06 billion, up 7.6 per cent year-on-year, while imports from India stood at $5.8 billion, down 0.6 per cent.

The Government is considering the export of 15,000 tonnes of specialty sugar annually, which will not come under the purview of any restrictions, even if imposed. Currently, sugar export is allowed through a permit system issued by the Food Ministry, and there is no separate distinction made for specialty sugar, which are essentially valued-added products.

The meeting saw productive discussions on enhancing bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, technology, food security, renewable energy and other key areas.
