Banana Boom: Maharashtra farmers expand acreage as India eyes bigger global market
Lucrative prices and rising commercial demand are set to push up banana acreage in Maharashtra in marketing year 2025, strengthening India’s production and export prospects. A recent Crisil–APEDA report projects Maharashtra to consolidate its position as the country’s leading banana hub, contributing nearly 25 per cent to India’s 14.2-million-tonne output.

Canada's top diplomat says Ottawa is working fast to advance India trade deal
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said Monday that Canada and India will move quickly to advance a trade deal after two years of strained relations, noting Ottawa has a new foreign policy in response to US President Donald Trump's trade war. Anand's statement follows a meeting between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Group of 20 summit in South Africa this past weekend, where the leaders agreed to restart stalled talks for a new trade deal.

India begins detailed mapping of global trade rules to boost export compliance
The Commerce Ministry has started a full-scale mapping of mandatory and voluntary non-tariff measures (NTMs) that Indian exporters face in overseas markets, news agency PTI reported on November 25. The move by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) is part of preparations for the newly approved Export Promotion Mission. It aims to create a central database that will help exporters navigate technical compliance demands, reduce trade hurdles and improve the quality of outbound shipments. The DGFT has asked exporters, industry bodies, export promotion councils and commodity boards to share all relevant information on NTMs within seven days. The information will include certification requirements, testing procedures, inspections, audits and labelling rules imposed by destination countries.

Landlocked states to receive focused support under export promotion mission: Goyal
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said the recently approved Rs 25,060 crore export promotion mission would incorporate targeted schemes to help landlocked states enhance their competitiveness in the export sector. He also called for a strong centre-state partnership to boost export growth. The minister was addressing the fourth Board of Trade (BoT) meeting here, a commerce ministry statement said.

India, Russia-led EAEU to start talks for trade pact from Wednesday: Piyush Goyal
India and the Russia-led EAEU group will start formal negotiations for a trade agreement from Wednesday, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Tuesday. The Terms of Reference signed on August 20, 2025, outline an 18-month work plan aimed at diversifying markets for Indian businesses, including MSMEs, farmers and fishermen.

Exports in positive zone; SEZ surplus can help cut imports, says Piyush Goyal
Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that India's exports have rebounded this month till 21 November after falling 12% last month and are now in the positive zone, as reported by PTI. Goyal said that sectors like seafood have shown healthy growth and and as per quick estimates the country's merchandise exports continue to be on an upward trajectory till November 21 as compared to the same period last year. After chairing the Board of Trade meeting Goyal told the reporters that the exports are in the positive territory and significant growth has been seen in several sectors.

Horticulture production up 4% to 369.05 mn tonne in 2024-25
The country's horticulture production rose marginally by 4 percent to 369.05 million tonne in the crop year ended June 2025 on higher production of fruits and vegetables, according to an agriculture ministry data released on Tuesday. The horticulture production stood at 354.74 million tonne in the previous year. Horticultural crops are estimated to have been covered in an area of 29.48 million hectare in 2024-25 crop year (July-June), marginally higher than 29.08 million hectare in the previous year.

Senegal import pause pressures Indian 100% broken rice: Platts
Platts assessed Indian 100% broken at US$298/MT on Nov. 20, down US$6 /MT month on month, as shipments destined for Dakar face potential diversion to other markets amid the suspension. Senegal, which imports approximately 1.65 million mt of milled rice annually to cover about 70% of its domestic demand, paused imports to reduce local oversupply.
