GI tag sought for Madurai jigarthanda.
Madurai’s iconic summer cooler, jigarthanda, is a sip away from global fame. An application has been filed with the GI Registry in Chennai seeking a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Madurai jigarthanda, a milk-based delicacy synonymous with the temple city. The application has been jointly submitted by Madurai Famous Jigarthanda Association and Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology. From pushcart beginnings to cult status, Madurai jigarthanda has enthralled people for decades.

Punjab’s flavourful quest: Amritsari Kulcha eyes GI tag.
The Punjab government is exploring the possibility of securing a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Amritsari Kulcha, an iconic stuffed flatbread deeply rooted in the culinary heritage of Amritsar. The initiative is being led by the Punjab Food Processing Department, with Principal Secretary Rakhee Gupta Bhandari highlighting that such recognition would not only safeguard the city’s food culture but also boost branding, exports and employment in the region.

Piyush Goyal Inaugurates APEDA’s First Regional Office In Bihar, Boosting State’s Agri-Export Potential.
In a bid to boost Bihar’s footprint on the global agri-export map, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday inaugurated the state’s first regional office of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). The inauguration took place during the Bihar Idea Festival in Patna, in the presence of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Industries Minister Nitish Mishra, senior state officials, APEDA leadership, entrepreneurs, FPOs and farmer groups.

APEDA inaugurates regional office in Patna; 7 MT GI-Tagged Mithila Makhana exported to global markets.
In a landmark development for Bihar’s agri-export sector, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, inaugurated the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA)’s Regional Office in Patna during the Bihar Idea Festival. Adding a historic touch to the occasion, Shri Goyal flagged off a 7 metric ton consignment of GI-tagged Mithila Makhana bound for New Zealand, Canada, and the USA. The consignment was exported by Ms. Neha Arya, woman entrepreneur and founder of Nehashi from Darbhanga, Bihar. Her initiative symbolizes APEDA’s commitment to inclusive, gender-sensitive, and farmer-centric trade promotion.

Exporters seek new markets amid Trump tariff challenges.
Textile conglomerate Arvind Limited said it is navigating a turbulent global trade environment with significant exposure to the US, while stepping up efforts to diversify into new geographies. Speaking at the CII Gujarat Export Conclave on Friday, vice-chairman Kulin Lalbhai said the company faces 30–40% exposure to the US, which has imposed steep import tariffs.

Indian bakers’ body welcomes govt decision to cut GST on products.
Terming earlier GST rates on bakery products as 'disproportionately high,' Indian Bakers Federation (IBF), has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for significant reductions in tax rates as decided in the recent GST Council meeting. 'It is under Modi’s guidance and the efficient functioning of his government that the long-pending concerns of bakers across the nation have finally received deserved attention,' IBF president S Anburajan and former president P M Sankaran said in a statement.

Gujarat govt eyes historic 66 lakh tonne groundnut production this year.
Gujarat, which accounts for over 50 per cent of India’s total groundnut production, is projected to achieve a record-high of 66 lakh tonne of groundnut this year, according to the State government. Last year, the groundnut production in the State stood at 52.20 lakh tonne and as per preliminary estimates, Gujarat is expected to achieve 26 per cent more production this year.

British Parliament panel opens inquiry into impact of India-UK FTA.
The House of Lords International Agreements Committee has opened an inquiry this week into the impacts and implications of the UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), concluded during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Britain in July. The cross-party panel, which includes British Indian Conservative peer Baroness Sandy Verma, is seeking evidence from experts and stakeholders as part of the parliamentary process before the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) can come into effect.
