AYUSH gets recognition in India's free trade pacts with Oman, New Zealand.
The commerce ministry on Sunday said India's traditional medicine system - AYUSH - has received formal recognition in bilateral trade agreements with Oman and New Zealand. Both the agreements, which were finalised last year in December, have dedicated annexures on health-related services and traditional medicine.

Centre pushes states to speed up farm scheme spending, warns of fund delays.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday urged states to adopt a strategic approach to budget utilisation, warning that delays in spending allocated funds result in losses for states and hamper the timely release of subsequent central instalments. Addressing a review meeting with state agriculture ministers, Chouhan said states must ensure funds earmarked for various schemes are spent before March to avoid administrative bottlenecks that delay the effective implementation of programmes.

India becomes world's largest rice producer, surpasses China: Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
India has become the world's largest rice producer, beating China, with a total output of 150.18 million tonnes, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Sunday, as he released 184 new varieties of 25 crops. These new high-yielding seed varieties would boost crop production and enhance farmers' income, he said, while directing the ministry officials to ensure that these new varieties reach farmers quickly.

During the Kharif Marketing Year 2025–26, farmers cultivating ‘Shri Anna’ showed a strong preference for government procurement over open market sales in Uttar Pradesh. Compared to the previous year, procurement of millets, sorghum, and maize increased significantly, resulting in higher and timely payments to farmers.

Goa gets GI Tag for five traditional farm products.
Goa has further expanded its portfolio of Geographical Indication (GI) products with five unique agricultural items receiving formal GI registration, marking a significant step towards preserving the State’s traditional crops and strengthening farmers’ livelihoods. The newly accorded GI tags are for Goa Cashew Apple, Mussarad Mango, Maang–Hilario Mango, Khorgut Rice and Taleigao Brinjal. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant announced the development, stating that the recognition celebrates Goa’s rich agricultural heritage and traditional wisdom while reinforcing the State government’s Swayampurna Goa Mission.

Indian govt prepares market intelligence studies to boost coffee export.
Indian coffee industry is poised for a major international boost, with the ministry of external affairs focusing on value-added products and driving record exports to Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, North America, North Africa, Russia, and China. The Union govt, following the request from Indian Coffee Board, led by chairman MJ Dinesh, is preparing market intelligence studies for coffee promotion, and the study report would be out by Feb or March 2026.According to PS Gangadhar, the ministry's joint secretary, it commissioned 6 market studies or intelligence reports through Indian Missions and Posts in key coffee markets spread across regions.Studies are expected to be completed by Feb 2026, and it would be shared with the coffee board for the benefit of the board and other stakeholders in the Indian coffee industry.

From Jan, FSSAI to ascertain claims by cos based on scientific evidence.
The national food regulator, FSSAI, has decided to ascertain the claims made by the food businesses with respect to safety of a food product as per Indian food habits and based on scientific evidence. This move will not affect the existing food products already given licences but is for the review request made by any manufacturer with respect to any existing product or a new product introduction.
