The commerce ministry's Export Promotion Mission (EPM) is expected to feature up to 12 components, including easy credit schemes for MSME, e-commerce exporters, facilitation of overseas warehousing, and global branding initiatives, to tap emerging export opportunities and strengthen trade tools for small businesses, an industry official said. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) showed a presentation on this mission to the representatives of export promotion councils and other key stakeholders on April 30

India's exports of goods and services hit an all-time high of USD 825 billion in 2024-25, driven by a record surge in the shipments of services that reached USD 386.5 billion in the last fiscal despite global trade headwinds, according to the commerce ministry data. Following the release of March services exports data by the RBI, the country's overall exports for 2024-25 have been revised to USD 824.9 billion from the earlier estimate of USD 820.93 billion, announced on April 15. Total exports were worth USD 778.13 billion in 2023-24.

India, the world's leading sugar producing country, may export up to 8 lakh tones of sugar, lower than the permitted quota of 10 lakh tones in the 2024-25 season ending September, a top government official said on Thursday .So far, the country has shipped 3 lakh tones of sugar and about 60,000 tones is at ports for shipment, a senior food ministry official said. Addressing a press conference, Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra said, We will export 8 lakh tones out of the total quota permitted.

The Indian agriculture sector is at a crucial juncture. Intensive paddy cultivation has been the cornerstone of the sector for decades now, providing livelihoods for millions of people. However, this practice now poses a significant roadblock in India’s journey towards sustainability. As per the latest estimate of 2023-24, paddy cultivation in India occupies an area of 47.82 million hectares (Mha), accounting for 36 per cent of the total area under foodgrain production. It is projected that if the resource-intensive methods and the intensity of paddy production remain unchanged, then methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from paddy cultivation could increase by 35–60 per cent, by 2030. This can be accredited to over-irrigation of paddy fields, over-application of fertilizers, and paddy residue burning.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) projects that Indonesia’s rice imports will fall to 800,000 tons in 2025, a drop of 3.9 million tons, as domestic rice production improves. This projection was included in the April 2025 edition of the Rice Outlook report, released on Monday, April 14. According to the USDA, Indonesia’s rice stockpile for the 2024/2025 period is expected to increase by 0.6 million tons, reaching nearly 5 million tons. This rise is attributed to a larger harvest.
