India has shipped Garhwali apples from Dehradun to Dubai for the first time in a bid to increase agricultural exports from the country. Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal flagged off the first trial shipment of 1.2 tonnes of Garhwali apples from Dehradun to Dubai, the commerce ministry said.

Prices of raw tea leaves produced by small tea growers crashed nearly 50% year-on-year in August to Rs 14 per kg due to rising imports of comparatively lower-priced tea from Kenya and Nepal, and uncertainty over Trump’s tariffs impacting export demand from the US. Consequently, retail prices of processed tea, already on a downward spiral, are likely to ease further, industry executives and consumer goods companies Hindustan Unilever (HUL) and Tata Consumer Products (TCPL) said recently. Retail price of tea is currently trending 10-15% lower from the levels seen in last July-August period.

21 Aug, 2025 News Image India and Eurasian Economic Union sign Terms of Reference to launch FTA negotiations.
India and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) comprising Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic and the Russian Federation signed the Terms of Reference (ToR) to launch negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) today in Moscow. The ToR was signed by Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Government of India, Shri Ajay Bhadoo, and Deputy Director, Trade Policy Department, Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Mr. Mikhail Cherekaev. During his visit, Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Government of India, Shri Ajay Bhadoo also called on Minister in charge of Trade, EEC, Mr. Andrei Slepnev. The heads of negotiation groups apprised the Minister about the milestone achieved with the signing of the ToR and discussed next steps to formally launch the negotiation process, including organizational aspects of the future trade deal.

The event saw participation from over one lakh livestock farmers through 2,000 Common Service Centers (CSCs) across states and union territories including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Kerala, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Delhi and Chandigarh.

National Cooperative Organics Limited (NCOL) is ramping up its support for organic farmers. In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on August 20, 2025, Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah stated that NCOL has taken a series of initiatives to ensure better income for organic producers of wheat, paddy, and pulses. Under the initiative, farmers are receiving direct price premiums over conventional market rates. Under this scheme, NCOL has provided an additional Rs 5 per kg for organic paddy and tur (pigeon pea) and Rs 2 per kg for organic wheat. This approach is designed to help farmers secure fair value for their produce while encouraging the shift towards organic farming practices.

India and Russia are looking to increase their annual trade by about 50% over the next five years to reach $100 billion, seeking to reduce tariffs as both countries see mounting tensions with the US, a top envoy said. Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said Wednesday during a visit to Moscow that the two countries must remove trade bottlenecks and reduce non-tariff barriers to reach the goal. Russia is India’s fourth-largest trading partner, while India is Russia’s second-largest.
