India and the Maldives are in discussions to negotiate a free trade agreement and an investment treaty, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told reporters on Tuesday. The countries are also discussing new areas of cooperation, including in renewable energy, Misri said.

With the August 1 deadline approaching, agriculture continues to loom large as an impediment to a trade deal between India and the U.S. India continues to hold firm against opening up the sector to imports to protect Indian farmers, and the U.S. remains keen that the sector be opened up as such a deal would set the precedent for future deals it strikes with the EU and Japan.

India's rice stocks in government warehouses rose 15% from a year ago to a record high for the start of July, while wheat stocks reached a four-year peak driven by increased farmer procurement, official data showed on Tuesday. Record rice stocks will help the world's biggest exporter increase shipments, while an improvement in wheat inventories will help the federal government to tame any price spikes later this year by increasing open market sales.

India-UAE bilateral trade has risen to $100.06 billion in FY25 from $72.87 billion in FY22 since the signing of India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) on February 18, 2022 and came into force on May 1, 2022. India's merchandise exports to UAE have grown to $36.63 billion in 2024-25 from $28.04 billion in 2021-22, a growth of 7%.

Government on 31.05.2023, has approved the 'World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan in Cooperative Sector', and it has been rolled out as a Pilot Project. The Plan entails creation of various agri infrastructure at PACS level, including godowns, custom hiring centers, processing units, Fair Price Shops, etc. through convergence of various existing schemes of the Government of India (GoI), such as, Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure Scheme (AMI), Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM), Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFME), etc.

India’s pulses production is set to rise by around 8 million tonnes over the next decade, driven by sustained yield improvements, according to the OECD-FAO Agricultural Outlook for 2025-2034. Currently, pulses production in India stands at over 25.2 million tonnes.

In the last five years, Gujarat exported 3,000 tonnes of mangoes, of which 29 per cent were exported in 2024-25 alone, according to data shared by the state government on Monday. About 3,000 tonnes of mangoes were exported to the US, South Africa and other countries between 2019-20 and 2024-25. During the last financial year, Gujarat exported 856 tonnes, which includes the Gir Kesar Mangoes which received the GI-tag in 2011.

As many as 28 states and Union Territories (UTs) have formulated their export strategy with a view to promoting the country's outbound shipments, an official said on Monday. The official also said all 36 states and UTs have constituted State Export Promotion Committee (SEPC) and District Export Promotion Committee (DEPC).
