Commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal has urged Indian Missions abroad to help address trade barriers faced by Indian exporters in their respective countries. While addressing Heads of the Commercial Wings posted in 74 Indian Missions abroad across 61 countries on July 16, he called for trade intelligence gathering, including updates on market trends, sectoral developments, and regulatory frameworks to boost India’s exports.

On this occasion, he inaugurated the newly constructed Vikramshila Hostel and Aryavart International Guest House. Shri Chouhan also released two important books – Pusa Bihar: The Birthplace of Agricultural Research and Education, and Textbook on Natural Farming.

IIGF is one of the largest and most prestigious B2B apparel trade events featuring 360+ Indian exhibitors showcasing their products to buyers from 79 countries, including the UK, Spain, Greece, Italy, France, and Germany. Turkey has eliminated a 130 percent tariff on 500,000 tons of corn imports just weeks before the domestic harvest, triggering a backlash from farmers, who say the move threatens their already struggling livelihoods. The decision, published in the Official Gazette on July 14 and valid through July 31, is intended to stabilize food prices and support the livestock sector. But agricultural producers say it could depress domestic corn prices as they prepare to bring in their crops in early August.

In a moment of pride for Maharashtra, Ratnagiri district has won the Gold Medal in the prestigious national One District One Product (ODOP) Awards 2024, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on July 14. The award recognizes Ratnagiri’s Alphonso mango globally renowned for its rich taste and premium quality as the top-performing product in the agriculture category. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, along with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and MoS Jitin Prasada, felicitated the award winners. Ratnagiri stood out among 641 entries from 31 states and union territories, with 60 districts ultimately shortlisted by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, today addressed the media on the Cabinet’s key decision to approve the ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana’. He stated that foodgrain production has increased by more than 40%, and the production of fruits, milk, and vegetables has also seen historic growth. However, significant disparities in productivity continue to remain between states, even between districts within the same state.

Once an importer of French fries, India has transitioned into an exporter, owing to the cultivation of specific potato varieties. These potatoes are now processed into snacks like French fries and wafers. Gujarat leads in this shift, with Punjab and Uttar Pradesh following. In 2004-05, India's processed potato production was less than 100,000 tons, yielded from a cultivation area of 4,000 hectares. Over two decades, production has increased to 1,150,000 tons across 37,000 hectares.
