India’s fruit and vegetable output up 52% in 12 years.
India's agricultural output has experienced consistent growth over the past 12 years, with fruits and vegetables showing a significant rise in value when adjusted for inflation. According to the newly released report from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the Gross Value of Output (GVO) for fruits and vegetables increased from Rs.270,100 crore (US$32.3 billion) in 2011–12 to Rs.410,000 crore (US$49.1 billion) in 2023–24 at constant 2011–12 prices. This marks a net increase of Rs.139,900 crore (US$16.8 billion), representing a 52% growth over the period.

US team to visit India in August for next round of talks for trade pact.
The US team will visit India in August for the next round of negotiations for the proposed bilateral trade agreement between the two countries, an official said on Monday. India and the US teams concluded the fifth round of talks for the agreement last week in Washington.

India-UK signing of trade pact on July 24; Piyush Goyal to accompany PM Modi.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will accompany Prime Minister Narendra Modi to London for the signing of the free trade agreement between India and the UK on July 24, an official said on Monday. The two countries announced the conclusion of the negotiations for the trade agreement on May 6.

India exports non-oil products worth $514m to Iran in a quarter.
Foroud Asgari said that India was Iran’s fourth source of non-oil imports during the three-month period. According to the official, Iran’s total non-oil trade during the first quarter reached 43.489 million tons, valued at $24.684 billion.

India-UK FTA set to boost bilateral trade by £25.5 billion annually: British High Commission official.
Deputy Trade Commissioner for South Asia at the British High Commission, Anna Shotbolt has said that the India-UK Free Trade Agreement is projected to increase bilateral trade between the two countries by £25.5 billion annually. She highlighted that under this FTA, there are provisions for tariff reductions on 90 per cent of traded goods between the two countries.

India becomes Malaysia's top oil palm seed buyer as domestic palm oil production expands.
Kuala Lumpur, India has emerged as Malaysia's largest importer of germinated oil palm seeds, with demand surging as the country accelerates efforts to boost domestic palm oil production and reduce import dependency. India imported 3.03 million tonnes of palm oil from Malaysia in 2024, representing 17.9 per cent of Malaysia's total palm oil exports and making it the top destination for Malaysian palm oil.

White rice export from Kakinada, Vizag ports hit.
Andhra Pradesh’s bid to check smuggling of non-basmati rice meant for distribution through ration shops has resulted in export of the cereal from the Kakinada port coming to a halt and being diverted to other ports, exporters and traders said. The State government has begun a similar exercise near the Visakhapatnam port too, leading to exporters raising concerns over the curbs. Such restrictions are causing quite a few problems that shippers are diverting their consignments to other ports such as Kandla or Chennai, pushing up transportation costs.

With the last few Budgets laying immense focus on modernising the farm sector through the agriculture infrastructure upgradation, fiscal incentives to build community assets, streamlined supply chains, reduced food wastage and food branding, the concept of ‘Farm to Fork’ is becoming an increasing reality in the Indian context. In fact, initiatives such as National Agriculture Market (e-NAM), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and PM Fasal Bima Yojana can ease the access to both markets and infrastructure for farmers and improve their returns by reaching the customer forks, far more directly.

India-Argentina hold second Joint Working Group meet on agriculture cooperation.
The 2ndJoint Working Group (JWG), meeting on Agriculture between India and Argentina was held with the Indian co-chair, Devesh Chaturvedi, secretary, Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, joining the session virtually. The meeting was co-chaired by Sergio Iraeta, secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, from the Argentina. Both underscored the significance of the meeting as a key milestone in deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of agriculture and allied sectors.

Inking of India-UK trade pact, ties with Maldives focus of PM Modi’s visit this week.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to the United Kingdom and the Maldives from July 23 to 26, the government said on Sunday. While India and the UK are likely to formally sign the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) during the visit, Modi will be the guest of honour at the Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations.
