India’s exports of agricultural and processed food products have commenced on a brisk note in the current fiscal, with shipments rising by over 7% on year to $5.96 billion in April-June 2025. Two central agencies in India have procured approximately 99,200 U.S. tons of onions from farmer-producer companies, as part of the government's buffer stock target of 330,700 tons. The National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed) and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Limited (NCCF) made purchases at an average price of around US$196 per metric ton (Rs 1,634 per quintal) over the past three weeks. Currently, procurement continues at approximately US$189 per metric ton (Rs 1,575 per quintal), as set by the Department of Consumer Affairs.

India and the UK are likely to formally sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) next week with the final legal review of the pact currently underway. Both nations had reached the agreement in May. India expects 99% of its exports to the UK to have duty-free access. It also expects the FTA to open up significant export opportunities for labour-intensive sectors such as textiles, marine products, leather, footwear, sports goods and toys, and gems and jewellery, as well as engineering goods, auto parts and engines, and organic chemicals.

India’s April-June quarter tea exports this fiscal registered a 17 per cent growth in value terms at $218.95 million over the same period last year’s $187.38 million on strong demand for the brew from traditional buyers. During the month of June alone, the tea exports were up 32 per cent at $83.24 million over the same period last year’s $62.76 million, as per the Commerce Ministry’s quick data estimates. In Rupee value terms, the tea exports during Q1 were up by around 20 per cent at Rs.1,873.72 crore from the corresponding last period’s Rs.1,563 crore. The value of shipments in June was up 36.5 per cent to Rs.715.09 crore (Rs.523.87 crore).

In the financial year 2023–24, the bilateral trade between the two nations reached USD 42.98 billion. India’s exports to Saudi Arabia stood at USD 11.56 billion, while imports were valued at USD 31.42 billion.
