Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Brazilian capital Brasília on Monday, marking the second leg of his visit to Brazil after concluding a “very productive” trip to Rio de Janeiro for the 17th BRICS Summit. Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Modi was received at the airport by Brazil’s Defence Minister Jose Mucio Monteiro Filho.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Rio de Janeiro late on Saturday (July 5) on a four-day visit, during which he will participate in the 17th BRICS Summit and undertake a state visit. The prime minister was accorded a ceremonial welcome upon his arrival at the Galeao International Airport on Saturday evening (local time).

Himachal: Apple growers welcome Centre's decision to increase Minimum Import Price.
Apple growers across Himachal Pradesh on Saturday welcomed the Centre's recent decision to increase the Minimum Import Price (MIP) for imported apples from Rs.50 per kg to Rs.80 per kg. While the move was seen as a positive step to safeguard domestic apple farmers from cheaper imports, especially from Iran and Turkey, concerns were raised about the effectiveness of its implementation on the ground. However, several farmer leaders warned that mere announcements without strict enforcement could render the move ineffective.

Trade deal may double India goods exports to US, report says.
A comprehensive trade deal between New Delhi and Washington could significantly boost the South Asian nation’s exports and manufacturing sector, paving the way for sustained growth, according to Bloomberg Economics. A broad agreement could nearly double India’s exports of goods to the US — its largest market overseas accounting for 19.3% of total exports — within a decade, and increase gross domestic product by 0.6%, economists Abhishek Gupta and Eleonora Mavroeidi wrote in a report Friday. Including services, overall exports to the US should rise 64%, the report said.

APEDA and NLDSL sign MoU to develop logistics eMarketplace for streamlining agri-export logistics.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and NICDC Logistics Data Services Limited (NLDSL) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of the Logistics eMarketplace (NLeMP), a unified digital platform aimed at enhancing the efficiency of logistics services across the country. The MoU was signed by Shri Abhishek Dev, Chairman, APEDA, and Shri Rajat Kumar Saini, Chairman, NLDSL and CEO & MD, National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC).

India and the Maldives discussed ways to explore new opportunities for economic cooperation and trade enhancement, state-run media said on Saturday. Millet push, kiwi boost, dragon fruit drive: Uttarakhand's Dhami government reflects on 4 years of farm and horticulture reforms.
The Uttarakhand government has expanded focus on both traditional agriculture and high-value horticulture, introducing a series of initiatives aimed at increasing farmers' incomes and diversifying crop production across the state, under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's four year tenure. Efforts to promote traditional crops have included the procurement of mandua (finger millet) under the National Food Security Mission since 2022. The state has integrated millets into the public distribution system, mid-day meals, and Anganwadi nutrition programs to boost both demand and nutritional access.

Despite global headwinds, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal believes India’s exports will reach a new record this year, aided by free trade agreements (FTAs) and investments flowing into key sectors. In an interview with The Times of India, Goyal said India is reviewing older FTAs with ASEAN and Japan while remaining cautious in trade engagements with China.
