India’s Banana Exports Surge Tenfold to $250.6 Million, Yet Global Share Remains Just 1.2%.
India’s banana exports have grown remarkably—from USD 25 million in 2010 to USD 250.6 million in 2023, according to APEDA. Despite this tenfold growth, India still lags behind in the global banana trade, accounting for only 1.2% of total global exports, despite being the largest producer. This underperformance is rooted in fragmented farms, lack of cold chain infrastructure, and heavy reliance on air freight. Most competing countries, such as Ecuador and the Philippines, export via cost-effective sea routes, giving them a distinct price and volume advantage.

California walnuts will gain boost from India tariff cut.
Nick Papagni of AgNet West discussed the walnut outlook with Michael Jameson of Morada Nut Company, noting shifts in crop projections and trade dynamics. Jameson remarked, 'This year's crop is estimated at 650,000 to 700,000 tons, which is ideal for California. Last year, prices were up, but yields were down. This year, we're hoping for strong yields and solid prices, which could finally deliver real profits to growers.'

US, India in talks on trade deal that may cut tariff below 20%.
The US is working toward an interim trade deal with India that may reduce its proposed tariffs to below 20%, people familiar with the matter said, putting the South Asian nation in a favorable position against its peers in the region. India doesn’t expect to receive a tariff demand letter — unlike many other nations this week — and anticipates the trade arrangement will be announced through a statement, the people said, asking not to be identified because the discussions are private. The interim deal would allow for continued talks, giving New Delhi space to resolve outstanding issues ahead of a broader agreement expected this fall, they said.

India, Australia trade talks hit dairy, wine tariff hurdles as year-end deadline looms, say sources.
India has rejected Australia's push for deeper tariff cuts on dairy and alcohol, hampering efforts to conclude the second phase of a trade pact by year-end, two Indian government sources said. An interim trade pact signed in 2022 lowered tariffs on a range of goods, but negotiations on a broader Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) covering goods, services and visas have slowed, with dairy and wine emerging as key sticking points, the sources said.
