The discussions focussed on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, technology, green energy, and skilling. Shri Goyal also met Dr. Levin Holle, Economic and Financial Policy Advisor at the Federal Chancellery and Germany’s G7 & G20 Sherpa and discussed ways to further deepen the bilateral economic relationship. Later, Shri Goyal also chaired a Roundtable with CEOs and leaders of German Mittelstand companies at the Indian Embassy, who conveyed their keenness to do business in India and expand existing investments. The Minister highlighted the opportunities offered by India and the measures taken by the Government of India to facilitate investments and ease of doing business. They discussions explored synergies and stronger business-to-business linkages, especially in areas of innovation, sustainability, and advanced manufacturing.

India’s commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal has called on the Global South to speak with one voice to address rising uncertainty, inequality and distrust in the global trading system, warning that the rules-based order was under strain from unilateral measures and protectionist barriers. Speaking at the 16th Session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva on Wednesday, Goyal said the world was experiencing 'an era of profound trust deficit' across multilateral institutions, international bodies, and even nations. Tariff and non-tariff barriers, non-market practices, and over-concentrated supply chains were eroding confidence in the global trading system, he added.

Brazilian Tahiti limes are set to make their debut in the Indian market this week, with the first trial shipment expected to arrive on 24th October, says Mahendra M. Shivaraju of Scion Agricos, the fresh produce importer-exporter handling the consignment. 'This initiative follows new bilateral trade agreements between India and Brazil aimed at expanding agricultural exchange under the BRICS framework.'

An Indonesian team is scheduled to visit India this month-end to end the impasse over the suspension of Indian groundnut imports by Jakarta. Indonesia suspended the import of groundnuts from India from September 3, following a notification issued on August 27. The suspension followed reports of the presence of aflatoxins, seen as molds in grains and oilseeds, in Indian groundnuts.

If the latest reports are to be believed, India and the US are close to finalising a long-pending trade deal that could significantly reshape their economic relationship and signal a deeper strategic alignment on global energy and geopolitical issues. Washington is reportedly prepared to slash tariffs on Indian exports from about 50 percent to 15–16 percent, in exchange for India’s commitment to gradually reduce its dependence on Russian crude oil.

The Department of Food and Public Distribution plans to inspect edible oil units not complying with government’s Order and has appealed to the edible oil manufacturers, processors, blenders, re-packers, and other stakeholders involved in the entire supply chain to register and start filing monthly returns both of which have become mandatory after the amended Vegetable Oil Products, Production and Availability (Regulation) Order, 2011 (VOPPA Order) notified.
