Pacts with UK, EFTA to bring in $100bn investments: Piyush Goyal.
Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Sunday listed the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between India and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) which has now come into force, and his meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Mumbai to advance the India-UK trade and investment partnership as major highlights of his ministry in the last fortnight.

India pushes to expand rupee settlement with key trade partners.
India’s central bank is taking active steps to allow free-trade partners to settle transactions with it more easily in the rupee, a person familiar with the matter said, a move that could help boost the local currency over time. Initial steps include establishing direct rupee rates that don’t rely on a third currency, such as the US dollar, for cross-reference, said the person familiar with the central bank’s thinking, asking not to be named because the discussions are private.

Tamil Nadu expands paddy storage by 3 lakh metric tonnes, total capacity exceeds 7 lakh tonnes.
Tamil Nadu Minister for Food and Civil Supplies R Sakkarapani on Friday said the state government is setting up additional storage facilities with a capacity of 3 lakh metric tonne for paddy. Combined with the existing storage capacity of 4.63 lakh metric tonne, the total infrastructure to hold the paddy would exceed 7 lakh metric tonnes, he informed the Assembly.

Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurates Farmers' Training Centre in Karnataka under MPLAD scheme.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday inaugurated a Farmers' Training and Common Facility Centre under the MPLAD scheme here. The centre in Kasapura village aims to train self-help groups (SHGs) and farmers through Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to enhance value addition to their agricultural produce, officials said.

Myanmar targets new avocado export markets in India and Russia.
The Myanmar Avocado Producers and Exporters Association (MAVO) expects to exceed 10,000 tons of avocado exports during the 2025–2026 financial year, with plans to expand into new markets, including India and Russia. In the 2023–2024 season, Myanmar exported about 7,600 tons of avocados, increasing to over 8,000 tons in 2024–2025. Thailand remains the main destination for exports, though discussions are underway to diversify trade partners.

Exports record positive growth in 24 nations in Apr-Sep; reflect market diversification.
Reflecting a clear trend of market diversification, Indian exporters registered positive growth in 24 countries during the first half of the current fiscal year, even as shipments to the US declined due to high tariffs in September, official data showed. These 24 countries include Korea, UAE, Germany, Togo, Egypt, Vietnam, Iraq, Mexico, Russia, Kenya, Nigeria, Canada, Poland, Sri Lanka, Oman, Thailand, Bangladesh, Brazil, Belgium, Italy and Tanzania.

Indian rice procurement tops 48 lakh tonnes on early harvest.
Rice procurement in the first fortnight of October has more than doubled to over 48 lakh tonnes (lt) worth Rs. 17,240 crore, which officials said was mainly due to early harvesting in Punjab and Haryana. The daily procurement was about 5 lt until October 16, which may jump substantially next month when purchases start picking up in other States.

India aims to double agri exports, open new global markets for rice in five years: Minister Pralhad Joshi.
Over the next five years, India aims to double its agricultural and agri-based exports and open new global markets for Indian rice, Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, said in a video message, 'Over the next 5 years, we aim to reform and modernize the public distribution system, double Agri and Agri based exports and open new global markets for Indian rice,' he noted.

India seeks tariff solution in US trade talks: Commerce Secretary.
India is looking for a 'win-win solution' in its trade talks with the US that would also address the 'tariff issue', with New Delhi keen to make additional energy purchases of $12-13 billion from Washington, Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal said Wednesday. India is open to expand oil purchases from the US, provided it comes at the 'right price', he said.
